NEW YOUTH HUB

We turned the sod on a new Youth Hub in the heart of Wallan on Tuesday alongside Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green MP and Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor David Lowe.

The new hub will increase services for young people in Mitchell Shire including mental health support and youth social spaces.

Council has contributed $1.09 million to this significant project with $645,789 from the State Government through the Victorian Growing Suburbs Fund.

FISHING IN SEYMOUR

A two-tiered fishing platform at Goulburn Park in Seymour has been opened, making recreational fishing easier and more accessible for everyone.

Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes MP joined Mitchell Shire Deputy Mayor Councillor David Atkinson and Seymour anglers to officially open the platform last week.

Council contributed $89,000 to the project, with Victorian Fisheries Authority ($100,000) and Regional Development Victoria ($10,000) also helping the project become a reality.

COUNCIL SERVICE HOURS CHANGES Put you bin out a day later

There will be some changes to our normal operating hours during the Christmas and New Year period.

These changes affect our kerbside waste and recycling collections, leisure centres, maternal and child health centres, customer and library service centres and resource recovery centres.

If your bins are collected on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, you will need to put your bins out one day later over the Christmas and New Year period.

See what and when will be open below.

REGISTER YOUR POOL WITH COUNCIL New legislation introduced

New laws have been introduced to improve swimming pool and spa safety in Victoria. As part of the changes, owners are required to register their pool and spa with their local Council and have their safety barrier inspected once every four years.

If you own a permanent pool, above ground pool, indoor pool, hot tub, bathing or wading pool, and it's capable of holding more than 30cm of water, then we need you to register your pool with us.

If you have a specific question about your pool or spa, give our Building Services team a call on 5734 6200.

CASHLESS RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTRES? Tell us how this would affect you

We want to find out how a cashless service at our Resource Recovery Centres would impact customers.

Going cashless at our centres - paying by credit card or EFTPOS - would improve the speed of service for customers, as well as improve safety and security for our staff.

Take our quick customer survey and let us know what this change would mean for you.

EARLY YEARS SERVICES IN WALLAN EAST Have your say on a new centre

We're getting ready to build a new, temporary family and children's centre in Wallan East. The centre will provide kindergarten and maternal and child health services in the area.

We're asking community members what sort of activities and programs they would like to see in the new centre.

This $2.1 million project is funded through the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs Fund, with support from Mitchell Shire Council.

STAY SAFE IN SUN Keep an eye out for hot surfaces in public areas this summer

As the temperatures begin to rise, outdoor surfaces on playgrounds, skate park ramps, outdoor seats and barbeques can get very hot, even on days of mild temperatures.

People visiting pools are also reminded of the dangers of hot surfaces, prolonged exposure to sunlight and heat as well as the need to actively supervise children in water.
