Click here PRESS RELEASE Destination Hauraki Coromandel GM leaving to start new tourism venture after 14 yearsDestination Hauraki Coromandel Trust (DHC) General Manager Hadley Dryden has resigned after 14 years with the regional tourism organisation (RTO), but will remain in the region to pursue a new tourism venture. Having supported the organisation through a recent review that included a change of governance and with future funding now secure, Dryden is confident that the organisation is well positioned to move forward. “Tourism is a dynamic and evolving industry. If we want to see improved tourism outcomes, regional tourism organisations must play a greater role in marketing and destination management. I feel this is the perfect time to bring in new energy and leadership to Hauraki Coromandel,” said Dryden. He acknowledged the resilience of the local operators and the small but dedicated team at DHC, who have navigated multiple challenges in recent years—from the pandemic to severe weather events that closed roads and tracks, and more recently a cyber security breach. “It’s been an awesome ride. We have built a great brand and have weathered a few challenges in recent years which has probably kept me here longer that I intended. The temptation to stay on and work with the new board is real, but I have made a commitment that I’m excited about.” DHC Board Chair Jason Hill acknowledged Dryden’s long service and legacy that he will leave and his early communication with the board about his departure. “We were keen for him to stay but we have been aware of his plans for a while now, and fully support him in his new local venture and he has given us time to ensure a smooth transition. Ultimately this is a positive outcome for him and DHC, especially as he is staying in the region.” DHC receives funding and support from Thames Coromandel and Hauraki District Council’s to promote the region as a leading and sustainable visitor destination. The region welcomes over $500 million in visitor spending annually, with tourism remaining a leading employer. The RTO’s business plan supported by both councils, outlines how DHC will continue to position Hauraki Coromandel as a leading and sustainable visitor destination under the Good for Your Soul brand. A strong calendar of activity is already planned over the next two years including DHC’s Annual General Meeting and Industry Function scheduled for Friday, 29 August. The event will offer an opportunity for the board to connect with industry stakeholders and acknowledge Dryden’s significant contribution to the region. “Hadley will officially finish at the end of October, but the August function will be a fitting time to say thanks,” said Hill. A process to replace Dryden is already underway.
