CMS Star Rating Methodology Questioned
Shayna Diamond, Director of Community Affairs

This past week a letter from American Hospital Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, America’s Essential Hospitals and the Federation of American Hospitals was sent to The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) outlining concerns about the star ratings. Specifically they urge CMS to share additional information with hospitals and the public about how accurately its overall hospital quality star ratings portray hospital performance and work with hospitals to validate the methodology, or continue to withhold publication of the ratings. You can read more in this blog from AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack.

Pokeman Go + Hospitals
Genesis Verduzco, Communications Manager

The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association was recently alerted that several hospitals across the US are associated with GPS Hot Spots for the new Pokeman Go game. These GPS locations allow players to walk past areas to get credits and points when playing the game. Hospitals can use the Removal Form online to report and request removals of “Gyms or PokeStops”. Select “submit a request” in the upper right corner and then “Report an issue with a Gym or Pokestop” in the pull-down menu.

Point of Pride

This week West Yavapai Guidance Clinic (WYGC) and Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) are participating in events to improve the health of their communities.

  • WYGC’s Senior Peer Prevention Program is currently participating in Give65. This program helps seniors get past their common challenges such as difficulties with isolation, chronic health conditions, and stress by matching trained peer volunteers with seniors requiring services.
  • Just yesterday, KRMC held their 2016 Men’s Health Fair providing free screenings, tips on maintaining a healthy weight, and smoking cessation.

These two events highlight the importance of hospitals in the the quality of life of their communities. Thank you for helping make Arizona a healthier state!
