    1. Updated Records Destruction Guidance

Most University records are classed as temporary in the University Records Retention and Disposal Authority (RDA).

When these records reach the end of their minimum required retention period outlined in the RDA and are no longer needed to support University business, pending litigation or Freedom of Information requests, they should be destroyed.

We recently updated our online guidance to clearly outline the requirements for the lawful destruction of University records. See our website for further information.

    2.  Retention & Disposal Authority update in November

The University Records Retention & Disposal Authority (RDA) is due to be updated in November. The RDA is updated twice per year, so staff should regularly refer back to the resource for accurate disposal guidance. Please  contact us if you have any questions.

    4. VHERMAG

In October, the Records & Information team hosted a meeting at the University's Parkville Campus for the Victorian Higher Education Records Management and Archives Group (VHERMAG). VHERMAG is an open forum for higher education records and information managers and archivists to share experiences and ideas that lead to effective and efficient practices in recordkeeping. It was a great opportunity to meet with our peers across the sector and catch up on any shared challenges and opportunities, and to share information and knowledge with one another to continuously improve services across the board.
