Begin Again

The first new moon of 2014 was on January 1st, which I thought was very cool. In fact the second new moon of the year is also in January on the 30th. I did a little more research and came across some interesting ideas.

First of all these are both considered "supermoons" because they are so close to the earth, (and closer than any other new moon will be in 2014). What I found even more interesting is that the new moon on January 30th is in Aquarius which "plants the seeds of new possibilities...has no fear of trying something new...is a time to start thinking about the future you would like to build"

Sounds like if you didn't get to make your New Years resolution on December 31st, here is your second chance.

This past month I was contacted to do a podcast interview with John Gilling, and here is the result. It is a thorough interview about how I got into acting, all of the projects I have been in, who I would like to work with and lastly my plans for the future. Check it out!

Yoga Spotlight

Thanks to my dear friend, Sheelagh Pletsch, I had the pleasure of trying out the Laughing Lotus yoga studio in Manhattan for a full week. During one of the classes I realized why I have developed such a respect and appreciation for yoga.

I think it's clear that I like inspirational quotes. This newsletter has a special section called "Quote Corner" and my website has an entire page called "World of Quotes". It's easy sometimes to get caught up in what is wrong and forget all the good things we have to be grateful for. Those quotes and images are things that help me remember the positive and I share them hoping they may help others do the same.

During the class in question I realized that yoga, for me, is like an inspirational quote except that I experience it on a physical level. It permeates throughout my whole body and not just on an intellectual level in my mind. Of course not all classes will be as powerful, but the reason I am spotlighting Laughing Lotus is because every single class I took left me feeling uplifted and motivated, balanced and at peace.

Where Are You The Happiest?

Where do you need to be, which will allow you to harness the strongest energy, in order to give yourself the best opportunity to succeed?

Having spent time now in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto I am often asked where the best place is to live. While on one hand I can tell you why New York might be better for an actor, why my soul wants to be under the L.A. sun, why Toronto is great for alternative therapies or why the complete opposite is true for each, I have recently come up with a new answer. Wherever you decide to live, it should be because that is where you feel the most motivated to live a fulfilling life and where you feel there is the most potential to flourish. Different places are good for different things, but if it doesn't inspire you personally and it doesn't ignite your passion, then regardless of how great it is it won't make YOU great.

It isn't easy to figure out right away if a location calls to you, but I realize now that this is what I should be listening for. Not what other people say but whether it sparks something in me that makes me want to be the best at my craft.

Ring in the New Year with 10 Days of Silence

When I told people I was going to a 10 day meditation retreat over New Years the response was generally "oh wow, I wish I could get away for 10 days." However, I knew this wasn't going to be the spa-like vacation everyone was imagining. We were silent for 10 days and couldn't even look at each other (the point was to feel as though we were there alone), we ate 2 meals a day (7am & 11am) and a light snack at 5pm, we were in bed by 10pm, up at 4am and meditated for a minimum of 6 hours a day.

So what did I get out of it? In a nutshell: peace, clarity and the ability to observe the reality of a situation instead of immediately reacting to it.
