OPEN CALL: Community-based Presentations

Regional Caucuses, Gathering Wisdom for a Shared Journey IX and FNHDA Mentorship Circles

The First Nations Health Council (FNHC) and the First Nations Health Directors Association (FNHDA) invite First Nations communities, organizations supporting First Nations people and partners working in the area of health and wellness to submit a short description for presentations. Community-based presentations should be based on existing health and wellness initiatives, promising or wise practices or evidenced based initiatives. The sharing of “wise practices” (or best practices) are important approaches that both the FNHC and FNHDA value and seek both in gifting and being open to new learnings.

The FNHC and FNHDA have collaborated on an open call for presentations to build a database of community promising practices related to governance, health, mental health and the social determinants of health. We have heard from communities that we need to showcase what works well and offer opportunities for community-to-community learning. This database will assist us to call upon communities to tell their own stories at future engagement events hosted by the FNHC and/or FNHDA. We are seeking presentations with expertise and background that align with our shared values of:  respect, discipline, relationships, culture, excellence, and fairness.

Regional Caucuses and Gathering Wisdom for a Shared Journey IX

The upcoming Spring Regional Caucuses and Gathering Wisdom for a Shared Journey IX are important forums for Leadership, Health Leads and Social Leads to contribute to discussions on social determinants of health and connect with each other on Quality Improvement for First Nations. This is a unique opportunity to affect how health programs and services are delivered to BC First Nations.

The Gathering Wisdom forum this year will feature discussions on health, mental health, and the social determinants of health. Based on feedback from the last Gathering Wisdom forum, it is important that there are opportunities to learn and contribute to the work of better health outcomes for First Nations in BC. The Gathering Wisdom forum will also be an important opportunity for leaders to discuss the direction of the social determinants of health strategy that the FNHC is leading.
