"The Big Five": Grossmann's first watch set

A homage to Africa's wilderness

Elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, lion, and leopard – respectfully referred to as The Big Five – are commemorated in Grossmann's first watch set. They owe their iconic status to the danger involved in hunting them, retaining their special status among Africa's wild animals. The idea for a watch set dates back to a Big Five safari in 2015. The impressive trophies of present-day excursions are photo prints and videos.

For the true wildlife enthusiast, Grossmann presents a unique collector's treasure: the Big Five watch set. It consists of five exclusive versions of the Grossmann collection. Each watch features an animal portrait in rose gold on the dial and can be personalised with an engraving on request. Pure wildlife meets pure watchmaking artistry. The Grossmann Big Five watch set is limited to one set.

TEFNUT 36

For enthusiasts of pure watchmaking artistry in a smaller format

In keeping with the strict form vocabulary of the model family, the TEFNUT 36 represents a smaller variation featuring an elegant case with a diameter of 36 mm. On account of its enhanced comfort on the wrist, this universal format is convincing for male and female watch enthusiasts alike. From the moment when it is first put on, this watch becomes one with its owner. The subsidiary seconds dial at 7 o'clock is a prominent hallmark of the TEFNUT 36. The typical brown-violet hue of the numerals and hands underscores the inimitable brand personality of the watch. It is bordered by a slender gold bezel that can be optionally set with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds.

The well-balanced proportions are propagated in the calibre 102.0 movement as well. The display back showcases the work of art specially conceived for this model family. To achieve this degree of compactness, Grossmann's watchmakers chose a 3/5 plate with a straight cut and arranged the movement parts almost symmetrically. The TEFNUT 36 is an exceptionally beautiful manifestation of pure watchmaking artistry.

Thomas Reichstein
at Grossmann in Glashütte

Thomas Reichstein was born in Halle/Saale in 1960. Initially, he studied landscape architecture but then switched to the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK) to learn sculpture. Today, the freelance artist works in Dresden. His art is represented in national and international collections. He regularly travelled to and sojourned in Thailand, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, and France. Thomas Reichstein's sculptures entitled Mondbootschreitende and Big Spring are currently on display in the lobby of the Grossmann manufacture in Glashütte.

Later, based on impressions from Oceania, the rattan-tapa sculptures grew out of the palms of my hands in the Pillnitz palace kitchen. I was nurtured by experiences with wire sculptures from Halle as well as the sculptural and spiritual heritage originating from West Africa and the South Seas. Meanwhile, I have been pursuing figurative modelling projects at a traditional Buddha foundry in Thailand."

Grossmann at HIRANU and EYE EYE ISUZU in Japan

Grossmann is broadening its presence in Japan with dealers in Nagoya and Takamatsu.

HIRANU Watch and Jewelry was founded in 1915. Under the auspices of the Hiranu brothers, the company has evolved to become a prestigious address for haute horlogerie in Nagoya City.

EYE EYE ISUZU was established as an exclusive eyewear retailer in 1980 and on a second floor has created a venue for the Who is Who in European precision watchmaking. The unorthodox building architecture resembles a church and looks very much like a cathedral for luxury brands.

Grossmann at TEWES in Dortmund

Ever since 1824, TEWES has been top-tier purveyor of jewellery, watches, and silverware.  The city's oldest family-run business is managed by Rudolf Tewes from the sixth generation and has an excellent reputation far beyond the borders of Westfalia. All generations have nurtured and grown their company's personal trust-based relationships with its private and institutional customers. Lofty aspirations as regards quality and design reflect in proprietary goldsmithing creations as well as in the high-end choice of brand collections and, not least, in the company's totally remodelled headquarters on Westenhellweg. More than ever, a glimpse behind the tastefully renovated façade is worthwhile. It reveals a new chapter in the history of jewellery and watches.

Steffi Walther, Finisher

MG News: What is your role at Grossmann?

I work in finishing and bear the responsibility for the finissage of German silver frame parts, balance cocks, and associated components such as the index pointer and the micrometer screw. Then I also handle the preliminary assembly of the balance cock module and the final inspection of German silver parts.

MG News: What are the most important facets of your work?

Consistently high quality is my chief ambition. In finishing, every movement must be executed with the ultimate in concentration and precision. Otherwise, the component would have to be discarded. At Grossmann, I also appreciate the openness in communication and the interaction between all departments.

MG News: What's the recipe for your work/life balance?

My family awaits me at home, along with plenty of house and garden work. There's always a lot of excitement and I instantly find myself in another world – that's ideal for getting away from it all.
