Momentum building for Winnipeg Fair Trade Town designation Do you offer Fairtrade products? If you do, you could be a part of the effort to raise awareness of the availability of Fairtrade products in Winnipeg. The Fair Trade Winnipeg steering committee is working towards achieving the Fair Trade Town designation. Be part of the application, as we are finalizing our product availability guide. To qualify for the guide simply send us the brand name of any products you offer that are Fairtrade certified with the above Fairtrade logo. Do you know the difference? Quite often we are asked about who does what when it comes to the Liquor and Gaming Authority (LGA) and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL). The LGA licenses the service, retail sale or manufacture of liquor in Manitoba. This includes restaurants/lounges, beverage rooms, beer vendors, Liquor Marts, and craft breweries. LGA does not license MBLL’s distribution/sales network. The LGA sets minimum per serving pricing, legal age requirements, safe service requirements, hours of operation and terms and conditions for each license. The LGA inspects the licensees to monitor and confirm compliance with regulations and terms and conditions. MBLL buys and brings liquor into Manitoba for sale in Manitoba and then sells that liquor, and liquor made in Manitoba, through its distribution/sales network to LGA licensees. MBLL decides the kinds of products it buys and brings into Manitoba and sets pricing for these products – the LGA is not involved in these decisions. Each agency is empowered by different acts and regulation, they report to different ministers and are governed by independent boards. 6th Annual Canadian Food & Drink Summit 2017
