The shared voices of the storyteller, creator, author and illustrator are unique gifts too. Likewise, if you receive these ‘story gifts’, your voice has its own unique response. Each month’s newsletter is the result of a mutual relationship and collaboration between members of the Indigenous community in Guelph and the Guelph Public Library. Join our Virtual Book Club: The Pull of the Stars Julia, Kathleen, and Birdie will introduce us to their world of the 1918 Influenza pandemic as they struggle with fierce determination to keep their patients alive and their compassion intact. Set over a three-day period, enjoy this absorbing glimpse into a world both alike and unlike our own, as the characters find strength and camaraderie in hard times. Register today for this free virtual book club! Community Connection - Among the enthralled audience was local author Kathy Stinson, who immediately knew that she wanted to write a children’s picture book about Anne. “It’s not every time you see a documentary that you get to meet its subject right after. Or that you know — before the film is over and even more once you’ve heard the subject address the audience — that you want to write a book about her for kids. Or that the subject agrees to let you do it!” The Girl Who Loved Giraffes: And Became the World’s First Giraffologist is for kids ages six and up, and will be available mid-June but you can place your hold now! Kathy’s website also has curriculum connections for teachers and students. In the meantime, you can also read Anne Innis Dagg’s own giraffe book, 5 Giraffes, which profiles five different animals and their eating habits, social life and unusual bodies. Perhaps you can become an amateur giraffologist! YOU Can Help Our Library Win $20,000!
