Boating News FlashWe have just received word from the Office of Boating Safety of Transport Canada that the Small Vessel Regulation changes we have been writing about have become law. Don’t Let Them Catch a RideDon’t Let Them Catch a Ride is part of Ontario’s Invading Species Awareness Program.The Program’s goal is to stop organisms such as Zebra Mussels, Round Gobies, Spiny Water Fleas and Eurasion Watermilfoil to enter lakes where they haven’t historically existed. What’s Up with Sup’sAs you know Transport Canada had proposed some changes to the Small Vessel Regulations. The changes pertain to Flare Carriage Requirements and Boat Licensing and Stand Up Paddleboards. The good news is that Stand Up Paddle Boards have now been added to the list of recreational sealed-hull vehicles like paddleboats. Ontario Land Trust Alliance - Protected Places DeclarationGBA has joined GBLT in signing on to a Protected Places Declaration, submitted to the Federal and Ontario governments. The declaration can be found below should you be interested in joining this movement to demand that the governments of Ontario and Canada meet the protected areas targets, and respect Indigenous responsibilities and rights. June 22nd Water LevelsThe water levels across the Great Lakes are above their long-term average levels for June. Lakes Michigan-Huron, St. Clair, and Erie are all above their levels from last year by 3 to 4 inches. Lake Michigan-Huron is forecasted to remain at the current level into July. Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers - Risk Management StategyGBA has supported the Canadian Environmental Law Association, National Wildlife Federation, and Toxics Free Great Lakes Network in their submission on the shortcomings of the implementation of Annex 3 of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA) which includes a risk management strategy on (PBDEs). |
