Tender open: Establish and operate headspace Glen Iris

South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN) is pleased to invite eligible organisations to tender to be the lead agency for the new headspace centre delivering a service model responsive to the needs of young people and families residing/studying/working and/or have connections to Glen Iris and surrounding areas.

The successful lead agency will work collaboratively with headspace National and SEMPHN staff to establish the service.

About headspace

headspace centres act as a one-stop shop for young people aged 12-25 who need help with mental health, physical health (including sexual health), alcohol and other drugs or work and study support.

headspace centres across Australia are designed not just for young people, but with them, to ensure they are relevant, accessible and highly effective. As a result, no two headspace centres are the same, each offering unique services that are responsive to the needs of its local community.

At the heart of headspace centres' services is an assurance that young people can access health workers in a safe, confidential and youth-friendly environment.

THRIVE program to support sports clubs

Sporting and recreation clubs across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula will be better able to support the mental health and wellbeing of their members through the delivery of the THRIVE program.

THRIVE is a holistic, evidence-based model using the principles of Positive Psychology. Successfully trialled in the education sector, THRIVE is designed to support young people to develop positive mental health and wellbeing, while supporting their academic achievement.  It will now be piloted in sport and recreation.

Funded by South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN), THRIVE is being piloted by the St Kilda Football Club in partnership with the THRIVE Collective. Members of the Collective include: Langwarrin Positive Education and Community Network, Peninsula Health, Frankston City Council and the Primary Care Partnership.

The THRIVE pilot will facilitate capacity building and resource development to enable sport and recreation centres in the Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula to create health promoting environments, disseminate wellbeing resources and implement training in suicide prevention and mental wellbeing.

New mental health support for emotional or mental health distress due to COVID-19

South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN) alongside our fellow primary health networks in Victoria, has mobilised rapidly to establish a new mental health pandemic response service available to all people in South Eastern Melbourne.

The new service called HeadtoHelp is part of the Federal Government’s $31.9 million package for Victoria.

The initiative includes a statewide phone line – 1800 595 212 - to provide telehealth support to anyone who feels they are not coping.

It is supported by 15 mental health hubs located at appropriate existing health services to provide a welcoming, low stigma entry point for people seeking help for their mental health and wellbeing.

South Eastern Melbourne PHN is hosting three of these hubs in Frankston, Officer and Berwick:

  • Berwick Healthcare, 76 Clyde Road, Berwick, Victoria, 3806
  • Young Street Medical and Dental,  89/97 Young Street, Frankston, Victoria, 3199
  • Officer Medical Centre, 4 Cardinia Road, Officer, Victoria, 3809.

The service is available to anyone, of any age, and who may or may not have a GP mental health treatment plan.

Commissioning Process

SEMPHN worked closely with primary care services, hospitals, the Victorian Mental Health Pandemic Response Taskforce and the State and Federal Governments in identifying suitable locations for the hubs, based on criteria provided by the Federal Department of Health.

The service is not designed to replace other mental health services throughout south eastern Melbourne or duplicate or fragment support. Rather, it complements existing and newly funded mental health services under the guidance of the Victorian Mental Health Pandemic Response Taskforce.

The three hubs were selected from an open Expression of Interest through SEMPHN's eProcure.
