Portland, Oregon, home to the top athletic apparel company's in the world, the MLS champion Timbers and the MBA Trailblazers reside here alongside TrackTown USA. So of course this was the perfect place to host this years National Sports Forum and The Case Cup Competition. With over 1,000 attendees, 150 Sports Teams, and 200 corporations and agencies this was an incredible opportunity for our students. The weekend started off as 8 different Universities battled for the Case Cup Championship Crown. Each team consisted
of 4 members from elite Sport Management Graduate Programs across the country. The students were given 24 hours to complete a 20 minute presentation in response to the case received. The panel of judges consisted of sports industry professionals and academic experts including Darrell Geymann (Nike), Andy Clark (DePaul University), Sue Hollenbeck (Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau), and Troy Kirby (UC Davis). After the conclusion of the competition, the conference was kicked off at Providence Park, home to the Portland Timbers. The evening was highlighted by an all-access VIP tour and copious networking opportunities. Over the next two days, students participated in break-out
sessions based on marketing, sponsorship, ticket-sales management, social media and business development. A fantastic weekend at NSF 16 concluded with the Budweiser Gala hosted by the Portland Trail Blazers. Students received a behind the scenes tour of the beautiful Moda Center, networking opportunities with industry professionals and a keynote speech by legend Vin Lananna. (2016 Olympic Head Coach – U.S. Men’s Track & Field, President, TrackTown USA, Associate Athletic Director for Olympic Development, University of Oregon) " The National Sports Forum was a tremendous experience in which I would highly recommend. During the five days our team was able to compete against seven other prestigious Master's Programs on a relevant industry case study, network with over 1,000 industry professionals, and receive VIP tours of the Moda Center (Portland Trail Blazers) and Providence Park (Portland Timbers)." - Patrick Barkley LT27, Corporate Partnerships Coordinator- LA Lakers
