EEOC Issues Updated COVID-19 Technical Assistance

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has provided new information on how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) apply when an employer offers vaccination incentives for employees. The EEOC has also released a new resource explaining how federal employment discrimination laws protect workers during the pandemic.

Tax Incentives for Minority-Owned Businesses

Depending on the location and nature of their business, there are two particular tax breaks of note for minority business owners: the New-Markets Tax Credit as well as breaks for businesses in distressed and empowerment areas. Additionally, the State of New Jersey's Minority and/or Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) certification may help when obtaining contracts with government entities or as subcontractors to a larger government contract.

Resources for Businesses in Advance of Plastic Bag and Polystyrene Foam Ban

New Jersey businesses are urged to prepare for new requirements that will ban single-use plastic carryout bags, polystyrene foam food service products, single-use paper carryout bags in grocery stores over 2,500 square feet, and limit plastic straws to by-request-only. The latest details on the law are available on business.nj.gov and experts are available on the website’s live chat feature and at 1-800-Jersey-7 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET Monday-Friday to help businesses learn how to comply with the new requirements.
