Training: Engaging with families and significant others in the AOD sector The NSW Ministry of Health has partnered with the Network of Alcohol and other Drugs Agencies (NADA), Family Drug Support and Sydney LHD to deliver a Family Workforce Development project to increase workforce capacity of health services to support families and significant others. Develop your skills for engaging and supporting families and significant others of people with substance use. EOI: CESPHN GP Engagement Strategy – Consultation Roles Are you interested in strengthening the PHN’s role in supporting general practice? Central and Eastern Sydney PHN is seeking expressions of interest from general practitioners to partake in consultations for our new GP Engagement Strategy. This strategy will deliver better engagement and will offer a targeted approach to general practice needs. For more details, please contact Win Yee Tan. POLAR Webinar - Wednesday 8 May The next Population Level Analysis and Reporting (POLAR) webinar is scheduled for Wednesday 8 May 2019 from 1-2 pm. Shane Lowe, the Business Development and Education Manager at Outcome Health, will demonstrate the new functionalities and also discuss the features and activities for the upcoming Quality Improvement PIP. Changes across the care pathway for melanoma Melanoma is considered Australia’s ‘national cancer’ and presents a significant disease burden to the Australian population. CINSW has released their latest rapid learning installment, created to update busy health professionals on the significant changes to the care pathway for melanoma over the last 12 months. Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety As you may be aware there is currently a Royal Commission into quality and safety of aged care services. Central and Eastern Sydney PHN (CESPHN) will be providing a submission on behalf of primary care practitioners working in central and eastern Sydney who provide a service to older patients residing in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) and the community. Your views are important in shaping the future of aged care services. Please complete the following survey questions about aged care services, and tell us what you think works well and where things could be improved. This survey is to be completed by medical practitioners, practice nurses, allied health staff and pharmacists who visit RACFs and provide a service to older people living in the
community. A separate survey will be developed for Residential Direct Care Staff working in RACFs. Have your say - Cervical Screening during the antenatal and postnatal periods You are invited to complete an online survey for a study from CESPHN, SESLHD and Cancer Institute NSW that aims to increase rates of participation in cervical screening of never screened and under screened women during the antenatal and postnatal periods. St George Hospital - Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Service What is Crohn’s and Colitis? Every day someone in Australia is diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis - the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The IBD clinic runs every Friday at 1.00 pm (except the first Friday of the month) at the Outpatient Department, Ground Floor, Prince William Wing, ph: 9113 2513. Free eating disorder professional development video series The National Eating Disorder Collaboration has developed five new digital professional development resources on eating disorders for health professionals. Find out more about screening, assessment, medical management, nutritional management and psychological treatment. Training: 'Providing Quality Health Care for People Who Use Illicit Drugs' NUAA is launching its first RACGP accredited active learning module training for GPs to help remove the barriers for accessing health care for people who use drugs. The event will be run on 25 May from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. Free parking is available, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided. For more information click here, or to register complete this form. Navigating genomic testing in primary care: A new e-learning module GPs are expected to engage in more discussions around genomic information with patients as genomic tests become more common. The Garvan Institute of Medical Research worked with ThinkGP to develop a 1.5 hour interactive module. This RACGP and ACRRM accredited resource aims to help GPs understand genomic testing and reports, and support their patients. Free tea cup for every woman attending BreastScreen Campsie in May BreastScreen aims to improve the survival rates of women with breast cancer by providing free screening mammograms to women aged 50-74. For the month of May at the Campsie clinic, every woman screened will be gifted a tea cup. This is an initiative to encourage open conversations about breast health and breast cancer screening among women. Click here to view the flyer. Mood Active is offering free places in their upcoming "4-week Well-being Workout" programs. Each session is 2.5 hours and looks at motivation and resilience strategies along with 60 minutes of exercise. Programs are now running at Rockdale, The Rocks and Camperdown.
