Conservation Week 2016

Conservation Week 10-18 September 2016

Spending time in nature improves physical and mental health and wellbeing. So get your kids into nature this Conservation Week and experience it for yourself. Attend an event, enter a competition or do a conservation themed activity the possibilities are endless.

Creating predator-free habitats – join the team!  Meet Museum staff and community groups, see the film “Pest Free”, and make your own tracking tunnel at Otago Museum - Saturday 10 September 11am-2pm

After-Dark Experience at Te Nohoaka o Tukiauau/ Sinclair Wetlands - Friday 16th September

The Halo Project Trapping Workshops

Many people in the Halo Project communities are keen to get stuck in, working as part of a collective effort to target invasive pests.

Landscape Connections Trust, OSPRI and DCC are teaming up to host the following workshops:

Orokonui Estuary Living Legends

Sunday; August 28, September 11 and  September 25, 9.30am

Working bees at the Orokonui Estuary resume for the season. Tackle gorse, broom and rank grass. With some planting opportunities also.

Meet at the DOC reserve at Orokonui Estuary, end of Foyle Street, Waitati. Look for the volunteer sign.

The 15th Annual Geoff Baylis lecturer, Dr Nick Mortimer, will pain  a picture of Zealandia's ever changing geography and life. He will talk about how geologists make maps of ancient landmasses, and how Zealandia's biota has changed through time.
