Firstly, let me say a big HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the Mums out there. If your Mum is a food lover, head over to our online store, there's a heap of great gift options. And if you let us know by ticking the 'this is a gift' box on checkout, we can gift wrap for free and send direct to Mum.

WAREHOUSE SHOP OPEN FRIDAYS

As of the third of May we will be kicking open the warehouse doors from 9:30 til 4 every Friday.

As we have with our Warehouse Market days, we ask attendees to bring their own re-usable jars, bags and vessels so that they can pour and scoop until their heart's content. Unlike our Warehouse Market days, we will have a range of packaged product available also.

See you in Sunny Sunshine West!

PODCAST - Olive Oil: Mother Nature's Gift

Our favourite podcast for going geeky deep on specific subjects has featured olive oil or as they call it 'THE NUMBER ONE OIL'.

Stuff You Should Know has delivered a great deep dive into the history, nuances and benefits of extra virgin olive oil.

Absolutely worth a listen on your commute, or while getting busy in the kitchen.

Our Olive Curing Recipe

Here it is, our tried and true olive curing recipe. It's not ours per se, it's actually a traditional Greek recipe that has been used for centuries.

As is our way, this recipe is light on additions. We prefer to allow the unique flavours of our fruit to shine.

LOCAL HERO - KING AND GODFREE

Unbelievable but true, King & Godfree has been operating as a grocery store since 1884! The Valmorbida family took over in 1955 with Carlo Valmorbida one of Lygon Street’s Italian food pioneers, helping introduce the likes of parmesan cheese, olive oil and pasta to the wider Australian community.

Events and Marketing Manager, Lauren Grima was kind enough to answer our Local Grocer Q&A.

King and Godfree has a storied past, can you tell us a bit about who is carrying the torch in modern times?
Cousins Jamie Valmorbida and Luca Sbardella, along with their family, are creating the next chapter in King & Godfree’s history. Together, they have transformed one of Australia’s oldest grocery stores into a vibrant precinct with the same passion for Italian food, wine and culture as their grandfather.

There is something for everyone - Stop by for a coffee. Eat a bowl of pasta. Shop for deli items, wines and spirits. Order gelato. Drink a cocktail under the stars. Everybody's happy!

Why do you think it's important to support independent retailers?
Because they are an important part of our culinary landscape in Melbourne and this enables smaller suppliers a platform for their products.

What should we be eating right now?
We are loving white asparagus, nduja and strateciatella.

What is your favourite Mount Zero product?
Pink lake salt yum!!
