New Town Precinct Upgrade will be included in this review. We'll be in touch soon to let you know the outcome of this review and how it will impact the New Town Precinct Upgrade. What's coming up in the next few weeks?Road overlay – asset repair works: While we determine the next step in the upgrade, we’re taking the opportunity to carry out some much-needed repairs to sections of New Town Road. The City of Hobart is planning to undertake road pavement repair works in New Town between 71 and 115 New Town Road. Contractors are engaged by the City to commence works on Monday 20 April 2020. It is anticipated that the works will be completed within four weeks, weather permitting. To complete the project quickly and with minimal impact to traffic conditions in the area, construction activities will be conducted at nights from 6pm to 6am on the following dates. Road preliminary works:
During road preliminary works, there will be a partial road closure with one lane open and the other lane detoured. All digging for the above works will be reinstated on the same night and most parking on both sides of the road will be open during the day. Road construction works:
During road construction works, there will be a partial road closure with one lane open and the other lane detoured. Parking in some sections of the road will become unavailable during the day. There is the potential for a full road closure on Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May from 7pm to 6am. Please note that these dates may subject to change due to weather and underground conditions as well as changes to construction methodology. The City will make every effort to minimise noise and disruption to residents, traffic and pedestrians as much as possible during this time. Temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place during construction. We ask road users and pedestrians to comply with both the directions given and the signs placed for guidance during these works. New Town Road will be open to two-way traffic during the day. Pedestrian access to all properties and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times. However, on-street parking will be unavailable during construction hours and vehicle access to some properties will be restricted at certain times during construction hours. The works will not impact recycling and rubbish collection along New Town Road. Parking during construction consultation In the coming weeks, the project team will be looking at new ways of engaging with the business community on parking arrangements during construction. Once we have worked with the business community to develop a draft design for temporary parking arrangements during construction, we will share this with the wider community for feedback.
