November Updates

  1. Education for nurses new to general practice - Central and Eastern Sydney PHN have partnered with Benchmarque to deliver a nationally recognised training course on immunisation practice in primary healthcare. 
  2.  Updates to the Australian Immunisation Handbook -  The Handbook was recently updated, with changes to 19 chapters, and various administrative updates to improve the usability, including updates to hyperlinks throughout the Handbook. 
  3. Immunisation schedules - NCIRS immunisation schedules include ALL recommended vaccinations for children and adults, not just those that are nationally funded under the NIP. 
  4. Spacing out or delaying of scheduled vaccinations - We have collated some useful resources for vaccination providers to assist in providing the best care for your patients when parents request to delay or space out vaccination doses.
  5. Can infants <6 months of age receive MMR vaccines? - Recommendations for MMR vaccine in children explained.
  6. New measles educational and promotional materials - The Australian Academy of Science has developed a suite of measles educational and promotional materials for vaccination providers and consumers, to raise awareness about measles.
  7. Managing anaphylaxis after vaccination  - Have you checked your anaphylaxis kit is up to date?  
  8. New Hepatitis B vaccination fact sheet  - A new NCIRS fact sheet on Hepatitis B has been developed for healthcare professionals. 
  9. New presentation of Priorix and Priorix Tetra  - GSK Australia has advised over the next six months the syringe presentations of Priorix and Priorix Tetra vaccines available in Australia will transition to Luer Lock Plastic Rigid Tip Caps.  
  10. HPV campaign launch – Phase 3  - The Australian Government’s Department of Health has launched phase 3 of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination communication campaign.
  11. Prepare your practice for power outages over summer - As we approach summer and temperatures rise, power outages become more common due to significant strain on the electricity system. Get your practice prepared for summer. 
  12. Increase child immunisation coverage rates at your practice - The AIR secure site provides the ability to generate a report which identifies patients due and/or overdue for immunisation by practice, known as the AIR010A Due/Overdue Immunisation Practice Report.  Practices can use this report to identify and recall patients due and overdue for immunisation.
