CHAMPION SPOTLIGHT

Girls Write Now  [shows mentees] that their voices matter, that they deserve to take up space, and that instead of just waiting for a seat at the table, they can build their own dang table and chair with a cute AF centerpiece...Girls Write Now is everything.

STELLAR SUPPORTERS

Marci Alboher and Romaissaa Benzizoune

Mentor, Board alum & Circle donor Marci Alboher, along with her mentee Romaissaa Benzizoune, have had a longstanding impact on Girls Write Now—Marci for over a decade, Romaissaa for nearly as long! Marci is a diehard advocate who writes about Girls Write Now every chance she gets. Romaissaa, who cut her teeth as a New York Times op ed writer while a mentee at Girls Write Now, is now a regular speaker and teaching artist with us.

Says Romaissaa, "I am super grateful to (still!) be in community with the many friends, mentors, and supporters that I met through Girls Write Now. Without them, I never would have pursued my dream to become a writer."

A Room of My Own

By Meril Mousoom

My mouth closes and my cheeks redden. I remain silent, despite the voice inside screaming, "This is not who I am." I struggle to find someone—anyone—like me. But if I'm not a woman, what am I?

A year later, I'm closer to figuring that out.

PROMPT OF THE WEEK

Write Your Soundtrack

From Marisa Cazanave-Steward, Director of Community Initiatives

Music plays an important role in a person's culture and background. Your "soundtrack" is constantly evolving as your life and experiences change. If you had to offer a curated playlist of two to three songs that describe who you are at this moment in time, what would those songs be? Describe the soundtrack to your current story.

We are thrilled to welcome Marisa Cazanave-Steward to the Girls Write Now team with this rocking prompt!
Pronouns: She/her/hers
