This April Fool's Day, join Girls Write Now and Prophets Over Profits for a daytime festival celebrating and supporting the next generation of femme power.

The event features Girls Write Now's talented mentees sharing their original work—along with musicians Susu, Lion Babe, Big Booty Kweeng, Hannah Noelle Enomoto, Miss Sabado, and Synea; and comedians Glorelys Mora and Kate Robards.

This event is open to the public. Admission is $25 and  free for mentors, mentees & alum.

WRITING 360 WORKSHOP

The Art of Songwriting: Shaping Moods with Lyrics & Song Structure

Saturday, Apr. 1, 11 AM-1 PM ET, Virtual

In this workshop, you'll discover the underlying principles of song composition. Musician SassyBlack will break down popular song structures for us as we discover what makes a catchy song. Participants will get a chance to write their own mood shifting lyrics and will gain an overview of the songwriting process.

Crafting Fanfiction: Extending The Life Of The Stories We Love

Calling all the Tumblr and Archive of Our Own posters, this one's for you! In this workshop, Girls Write Now Mentor and fan culture expert Elizabeth Minkel will give a brief primer on fanfiction before diving into a variety of craft exercises. With a focus on characterization, perspective, tone, and plot, participants will create their own fanfiction story, and add to the canon of our favorite stories.

From Mentee to Media Maven

Romaissaa began writing Op Eds for the New York Times as a mentee at Girls Write Now in 2014. As she forged her own trail, she enriched our community as a teaching artist, encouraging other young writers to share their unique perspectives (see her tips on 10 Not So Obvious Publications You Should Pitch!). Now, we're proud to share the news that Romaissaa will be joining the New York Times as a 2023 Opinion Editing Fellow!
