Rock of Ages - Senior Play

Congratulations to the cast and crew of this year's Senior Play, 'Rock of Ages', whose performances over the three-day-run were exceptional.  The show featured a long list of hit songs from the 1980s by famous bands like 'Journey' and 'Foreigner', performed live on stage by talented High School pupils.  Recent past pupils, Paige Leavy and Ellen Downey (both HSD, 2010-16) assisted director, Mr Milofsky, with flawless singing arrangements and choreography.  A highlight of the evening was when the entire audience began waving glow-sticks and singing along to the classic rock-anthem, 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn'.  Once again, the talent of our pupils has surpassed all imagining and we would like to thank everyone involved who put so much tireless effort into this colourful production.

HSD SCT in Leinster Schools League Final

On Wednesday 16 November, The High School's Senior Cup Team played Skerries Community College in the League Semi Final. This was a repeat of last year's fixture but with a much better result.  The High School won 37-15 after a comprehensive display, with three tries from Mathew Barlow, two from David Donnelly, one each for Stephen Landy and Rhys Butler, and a conversion from Milo O'Sullivan.  David Donnelly was named man of the match.  The final will be held in Donnybrook at 2.00 pm on Wednesday 30 November.  Supporters are welcome!

24 Hours Speaking Irish

Last week pupils from The High School took part in 'Gaeilge 24', an exciting nationwide initiative by Conradh na Gaeilge to promote the Irish language in schools. It involved pupils speaking 'as Gaeilge' for 24 hours.  Pupils and teachers had great fun expressing themselves in the national language throughout the day.  Well done to everyone involved!

A Poet Remembered

We were saddened to hear of the recent death of Canadian poet, novelist, and singer-songwriter, Leonard Cohen.  In tribute, pupils studied some of his lyrics in English class and performed one of his best-loved songs, 'Hallelujah', during the recent Senior Play.

HSD Hockey Interprovincial Success

The High School is very proud of our seven Leinster hockey players who were selected to represent the province at the interprovincial tournament in Belfast last weekend.  HSD brothers Peter and Harry Lynch scored five goals between them against Munster teams which was an incredible achievement.  Play on the final day was postponed due to heavy frost and will be rescheduled for a later date.
