Professor’s Passion Earns Mass Media Spotlight

A July 21 op-ed in The Washington Post examined political turmoil occurring more than 7,000 miles away as the African nation of Burundi held its presidential election. Describing the months of escalating violence and unrest leading up to the controversial re-election of Pierre Nkurunziza in that article was none other than Mary Baldwin College Assistant Professor of Political Science Cara Jones.  Read more >>

 

Doenges Lecturer to Discuss Religion and Conflict Transformation

Emily Welty, an expert in faith-based peacebuilding and development work, humanitarianism, nonviolent social movements, and reconciliation and transitional justice, will discuss the role of religion in conflict transformation as this year’s Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Doenges Visiting Scholar. Welty’s keynote — free and open to the public — will be held at 7 p.m. September 24 in James D. Francis Auditorium. Read more >>

 

College Begins Move to New Enterprise System

In August, Mary Baldwin began the transition to a new enterprise resource planning system, Jenzabar EX. The college began using the current system around 1990. The conversion to EX will take about two years to complete, and will bring increased functionality and efficiency. Read more >> 

 

Leadership in Training: Campus Community Welcomes ACE Fellow

Classical vocal artist and educator Aimé Sposato joins Mary Baldwin College as an American Council of Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2015–16 academic year. Shenandoah University’s associate dean for undergraduate studies and professor of voice is one of 47 fellows nominated by their institution’s senior administration and selected this year following a rigorous application process. The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing emerging leaders for senior positions in college and university administration. Read more >>

Pardon Our Progress

This week, Mary Baldwin College is converting its public website into a new, responsive design, which will make information about campus and programs readily available on mobile devices. The conversion — which began Sunday with the mbc.edu home page and will continue throughout the week — includes the transition of approximately 10,000 pages and 150 sub sites. Read more >>

Instagram user izzybellatrix captured an image of the corps' first drill training of the year. "It felt good to teach what I know and love," she wrote. "With the help of my sister nULLS we will develop smartly disciplined, highly motivated, basically trained cadets thoroughly indoctrinated in the core values of truth, duty, and honor."
