Beyond Bannock Challenges Youth to show us your Traditional Food

Show us your traditional foods and win! #BeyondBannock is a traditional foods social media challenge for all Aboriginal Youth in BC. The challenge runs until March 13th and we have some great prizes lined up! Post by 4:00 today and be entered to win one of our early thunderbird GoPro`s!
Youth can get involved be sharing their photos, short videos, or written stories on any of these three topics:
Catching or Harvesting!
Show or tell us how you connect to the land to collect, catch, or harvest your food! Images can include collecting berries, catching a fish, smoking salmon, gathering tea, hunting, or preparing! Use your imagination!
Your Traditional Meal!
Show or tell us about your traditional meal. What’s in it? Where did it come from? How did you cook it? What does your Nation eat?
Eating with an Elder!
Show or tell us about you sharing a traditional meal with an Elder in your family or community. Did you cook it together?

The Moose Hide Campaign is a grassroots movement of First Nations, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men who are standing up against violence towards women and children. On Feb. 12th, 2015, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men will meet for the 4th consecutive year in Victoria, BC to stand together in a day of fast to end violence against Aboriginal women and children.

Extension Granted for Applications for Personal Credits for Education

As of January 8, 2015 approximately 24,500 of approximately 79,000 eligible Common Experience Payment recipients had submitted applications. On December 17, 2014 the British Columbia Supreme Court ruled to extend the deadlines for Indian residential schools personal education credits.

Victoria Schools lead the way in shaking sugary drinks during the Winter Wellness Challenge
|

|
The Shake the Sugar Drink Winter Wellness Challenge took place from November 21st to December 21st, 2014. This challenge was a month long commitment to give up all kinds of sugary drinks and raise awareness in students, staff, administrators and parents about the potential health issues related to consuming sugary drinks. The owners of this challenge are four schools within the Victoria area: Victoria High School; Central Middle School; Victoria Native Friendship Centre; and Reynolds High School.
Over 300 students ranging from 11 to 18 years old joined the challenge as well as the many that followed the challenge on Facebook. Learn more about this challenge here
