Remember we are seasoned veteran's at this and are here to help and advise, so if you are at the early stages of your project, why not give us a call, get a plan in place and your project on track.

Choosing your prototype

The Decision Tree....

How to choose the best process for your Prototype when there are so many options?

New project, CAD data sorted, need a prototype…… aaargh too many options and don’t know which way to turn?!

Prototyping, 3D printing, additive manufacture, whatever we choose to call it now offers a wide variety of options and importantly capabilities. Which one is ‘best’ depends on what you are trying to achieve.

So step one, define and prioritise your goals. These should include delivery, cost, quantity, accuracy, surface finish, and material for starters. Now given this to work with, we can start to narrow down the options.

Open Tracking electronic enclosures

Aluminium Fast Track Tooling is a great Solution for Low Volume production parts

Open Tracking is a supplier of live tracking devices for endurance events, providing safety and participant management.

Requirement:  an improved solution for an enclosure to house their electronic assembly, with a requirement to provide additional functionality from the production part.

They had been using a 3D printing process up until this point but weren’t happy with the appearance of the trackers after use and the limited functionality, as the tracker could not be used in wet and challenging conditions.

Solution: Aluminium fast track tooling and injection moulding

Result:  From initial enquiry to production - high performance electronic enclosures delivered in just 8 weeks!

3D Printed bicycle tyres

Puncture proof bicycle tyres - 3D Printed of course!

We reported some time back on Michelin’s proposed 3D printed airless tyres, well they’re not the only ones who have been looking into 3D printing tyres...

BigRep have been road testing their new 3D printed flexible bicycle tyres in Berlin in Germany recently.

This latest tyre is the work of designer Marco Mattia Cristofori, and according to BigRep, the prototype tyre is primarily intended to showcase the potential of their new new Pro Flex filament.
