With this in mind, we are releasing a new edition of the ever popular booklet The Savvy Consumer. This edition of CBS Connect showcases some of the recent changes to legislation that have commenced since our last newsletter. Training requirements for property managers have been determined and the liquor reform continues to progress. Keep up to date with these changes and other important information at cbs.sa.gov.au. Dini Soulio Commissioner Liquor and gamingLiquor licensing reform - In December 2017 significant changes to liquor licensing began. If you host a party or an event where minors are present, and alcohol is served, it is important that you understand your obligations as an adult serving alcohol to teenagers. For licensed venues, changes to trading hours, entertainment consent, temporary approval of a responsible person and low risk exemptions are just a few changes to be aware of. TenanciesInformation for non English speaking tenants - If you know someone who is renting and English isn't their first language, they may be interested in the 'renting basics' factsheet which is available in 10 languages. Factsheets are also available for international students. See the tenancy factsheets in languages other than English. Fair trading![]() Gym membership - If you're thinking of joining or switching to a new gym, we are urging you to shop around and check out the membership agreement before you sign a contract. Get some tips on avoiding some of the pitfalls before signing up for a gym membership. Travelling con men - Warn family members and friends of the risks of using door to door tradies that often over-charge, do a shoddy job or don't complete the work. Order a free Do Not Knock sticker to display on your gate or front door to help protect yourself from travelling con men. CBS is looking into claims that two men offering their services via letter-box pamphlets may be operating without building licences. Compliance at CBSReal estate beneficial interest (24G) - More stringent guidelines now apply for real estate agents and their associates who buy property that they appraise or are authorised to sell. Read more about the changes for real estate agents. Hairdressers compliance - Compliance officers have been visiting hairdressers and barbers as part of a targeted education program. Washing machine recall - Do you own a Samsung washing machine manufactured between 2010-2013? Check to see if your top loader is subject to a recall. Licensing and registrationProperty managerment reforms - Qualification requirements for property managers have now been finalised. By 28 September 2019 all property managers must have completed training and be registered. More information about training units and registering is available online. Forms 5 & 6 SHVD - From 1 March all second-hand vehicle dealers (SHVD) must use the updated forms 5 & 6. More information about the changes and links to the forms are available on the website. E-notification - Remember to register to have your licensing renewals, invoices and reminders sent electronically. This is available to most CBS licence and registration holders. Births, deaths and marriagesSame sex marriage - Since the introduction of marriage equality laws CBS has had more than 35 couples lodge their intent to marry in the registry with a number of those ceremonies already having taken place. Consider booking the CBS registry office for your wedding ceremony. Marriage room - The newly decorated marriage room is now up and running. Couples can tie the knot in a modern setting, with family and friends sharing in the special occasion with them. Wedding parties can bring their own personal touches with music selection, flowers and mementos. Commemorative certificates can also be ordered. Justices of the peace - Recent changes for justices of the peace means a more streamlined appointment process and further clarifies the JP code of conduct.
