Transition Update Stage 2 Change Decisions for the Professional Services Project (PSP) were released on November 22, following consideration of staff, student and stakeholder feedback. The Decision documents explain how each of the eight areas will be structured and resourced to provide services to the Colleges and the wider university community. The decisions relate to the following areas:
Thank you all who attended our recent forum where the PSP was discussed in more detail. The change decisions and other PSP information can be viewed at any time via The 2025 Agenda web page. Following the change decisions release, Job Vacancy Information Sessions were held on 23 and 24 November to give staff the chance to engage across Colleges and Portfolios in relation to available opportunities that would be of interest, and to engage with change leaders to find out more information. The feedback on these sessions was positive. Materials prepared for those sessions to assist staff in the process of expressing interest in available positions remain available on The 2025 Agenda webpage. It is understandable that some staff may have concerns about uncertainty associated with change. People affected by the decisions are able to speak to someone confidentially about the changes by accessing support via our Employee Assistance Program. The EAP can be contacted on 82012696 or you can share concerns and suggestions with your Supervisor or with a People & Culture Business Partner. The University is now starting implementation activities and in early 2018 we will transition to the new structures. Through 2018 we will focus on continual improvement of both our structures and processes for academic and student support activities. Christmas Party TODAY Kirsty Boden Memorial Scholarship Now Open!

You may have changed hazards or risks in your new role so you need to know what emergency procedures apply in your new area. Please ensure you are given a local WHS induction in your new position. This may also help to remind you of the University's WHS Safety System as it may have been a while since you had your original WHS induction. ‘Work Health and Safety Induction Checklist’ is available here. CQMU Visit On 9 October the CoNHS welcomed 19 staff and students from Chongqing Medical University (CQMU), Shandong University and Airlangga University (UNAIR) for a two-week study and culture tour. The tour was an opportunity for the nursing students who visited China and Indonesia earlier in the year to play host and share their home city with the visiting group. The program provided experiences in the classroom, nursing skills laboratories, simulation suites, hospitals, aged care facilities, the Rural Health School and South Coast District Hospital at Victor Harbor. The group also enjoyed some cultural activities with visits to Cleland Wildlife Park, Hahndorf and the Big Duck Boat tour where they saw dolphins and seals in the ocean. Two of the visiting staff from China arrived three weeks earlier for additional experiences in teaching and learning at Flinders University in a range of disciplines. The staff from Indonesia also presented to the midwifery students about maternal and infant health care in Surabaya. The program ended with a homestay experience with a traditional Australian BBQ at Dr Wendy Abigail’s house. The evening included creative card making, toasting marshmallows and learning how to make an apricot crumble. Associate Professor Lily Xiao Associate Professor Lily Xiao was selected to participate in the World Health Organization Nursing and Midwife Scholar Program at WHO Headquarters in Geneva in 2015. Lily worked with colleagues in the Health Workforce Department to develop a Human Resources for Health Observer entitled ‘Optimising the contributions of the nursing and midwifery workforce to achieve universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals through education, research and practice’. The Observer has been published and the link will be available on the WHO HRH website shortly. The Observer focuses on how research evidence can be used as a vital tool to strengthen nursing and midwifery education and evidence-based practice related to five specific areas, namely: (i) sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health; (ii) non-communicable diseases and mental health; (iii) human immunodeficiency virus; (iv) malaria; and (v) tuberculosis. Associate Professor Lily Xiao was also invited to participate in the Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce Summit, in Melbourne, on 4 December 2017. The Summit was chaired by Professor John Pollaers, the independent chair of the Taskforce appointed by the Minister for Aged Care, Ken Wyatt on 14 September 2017. Approximately 180 delegates representing a wider range of stakeholders in aged care attended the Summit. The Taskforce's purpose is to develop a strategy for growing and sustaining the workforce, and providing aged care services and support for older people to meet their care needs in a variety of settings across Australia. Delegates discussed issues in five areas: (i) Cultural truth & Belonging, (ii) Industry Leadership, Mindset and Accountability, (iii) Industry Operation Model (current and future states), (iv) Industry Attraction and Retention and (v) Translating Research and Technology into Models of Care and Practice. A second Summit is scheduled for April 2018. It will focus on building a strategy with the aim of informing development of an exposure draft for wide dissemination and feedback. The taskforce can be contacted at ACWSTaskforce@health.gov.au Other News Congratulations to Professor Paul Arbon and the team at Torrens Resilience Institute (TRI) who have been recognised by the Director-General, Emergency Management Australia, as a leading example of academia working with government and private/public organisations as a centre of excellence.
