This was an interesting way to explore my South Asian heritage and my early childhood memories in Bangladesh. I believe this story is a reflection of immigration and familial ties, interweaving personal reflections with a broader context of generational experiences.

Mentee Alum Erika Jing Wins Auburn Witness Prize

Poem to be Published in Southern Humanities Review

Girls Write Now celebrates mentee alum Erika Jing for winning the 2024 Auburn Witness Poetry Prize honoring Jake Adam York for her poem "Follow". "Girls Write Now was such a wonderful resource for me as a young writer," said Jing. Her submission, as well as the runners-up and honorable mentions, will appear together in Volume 57.3 of Southern Humanities Review, published this fall.

Join us on Thursday, August 22, for the fifth Open Mic of our Summer Series. Ten readers are given three minutes to perform their work—poetry, songs, story excerpts, and more—in front of a live audience at Girls Write Now. We will begin with a generative group writing exercise to explore our own creativity before hearing from performers. Enjoy light snacks and refreshments!

Women's Media Group, a NYC-based nonprofit association of women leaders in media and publishing, is thrilled to offer one $2,000 scholarship to a Girls Write Now current mentee or mentee alum who is a rising college junior or senior. The recipient will also have the option to join Women's Media Group as a member with full benefits, including networking and programming opportunities, for three years, during which all fees will be waived.
