New immunisation media campaign
The State Government launched a new campaign yesterday promoting the benefits of immunisation and the No Jab No Play laws by telling real-life stories online and via TV, radio and social media.
Parents will be encouraged to keep immunisations up-to-date, with the Government’s VaxOnTime app available for download to help busy parents keep track of when their child’s vaccinations are due.
The campaign aims to motivate parents who are concerned about vaccines to find out more from reputable sources and learn about the importance of immunisation.

Practices on the ePIP must meet the quota for the past three quarters by 31 January.
You must opt-out of a quarter (or quarters) if you cannot meet the quota. The Department of Health may recover payments otherwise.
If your practice is in a compelling circumstance beyond your control that will prevent you from meeting the quota, contact the Department of Human Services as soon as possible and describe your circumstance to pip@humanservices.gov.au.
Regarding My Health Record in general, there are a couple of new resources:
-
It's now possible to use a demo version of the patient’s view (the patients' system is called the Consumer Portal). Seeing what patients see may help doctors and nurses to talk to patients about it. The demo is accessed from the On Demand Training site. Look for the section headed 'Get Started with On Demand Training'.
-
Translations of the brochure that gives patients an overview of the My Health Record system are now available in our ePIP Notebook (look for the Patients note). The translations are in the following languages: Arabic, Burmese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Creole, Croatian, Dari, Farsi, German, Greek, Hazaragi, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Karen, Kirundi, Korean, Kriol, Macedonian, Nepalese, Punjabi, Samoan, Serbian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Walmajarri.
For ehealth support, contact the ehealth team on 03 8514 4460 or ehealth@semphn.org.au.

Invitation to contribute to the RACGP Green book (3rd edition)
|
|
| |
The RACGP is reviewing Putting prevention into practice: guidelines for the implementation of prevention into the general practice setting (the Green book).
The Green book will complement the recommendations of the latest RACGP Red Book and help practices achieve the relevant RACGP Standards for General Practices.
As part of this review, you are invited to send real life examples/case studies of prevention in general practice. This could include successes and failures, ongoing challenges and lessons learnt.
Check out case study examples from the 2nd edition Green book here.
You can send your submission to Lynelle Cogan, Administration & Project Officer via qualitycare@racgp.org.au by 31 January.
Or, if you don't have time to write it, tell us about it and we can help. Contact Kym Westbury via Kym.Westbury@semphn.org.au.
Your contribution will help the working group shape a practical resource including real life case studies relevant to GPs and their teams.
A draft of the revised Green book is expected for review in March/April.

Summer health information from the Chief Health Officer
|
|
| |
Summer in Victoria brings dangers such as extreme heat and smoke from bushfires or planned burns that can impact on the health and wellbeing of Victorians.
Extreme heat and heatwaves can affect anybody. People most at risk include older people, babies and young children, pregnant and nursing mothers and those who are physically unwell or on medications for mental illness.
Victoria experienced two significant heat events in 2009 and 2014. There were an estimated 374 and 167 excess deaths respectively, a reminder of the devastating impacts of extreme heat and heatwaves.
The Department has a subscription service for the distribution of heat health alerts and other Chief Health Officer advisories and alerts. SIgn-up here.
The Department also has a range of resources, including Survive the Heat and Smoke and Your Health.
For more information, contact the Department’s Emergency Management Branch via heathealthalert@dhhs.vic.gov.au.
