NOVEMBER IMMUNISATION UPDATE
IMMUNISATION NEWS THIS NOVEMBER - The National Shingles Vaccination Program (Zostavax®):
The national shingles vaccination program has now commenced. People eligible to receive the free shingles vaccine include those aged 70 years of age as an ongoing program, and those aged 71-79 years of age as a catch-up program for five years.
- The Australian Immunisation Handbook: The Australian Immunisation Handbook 10th edition hard copy is now out of date. Please refer to the online version for the latest information and updates.
- Australian Immunisation Register (AIR): On 30 September, the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) became the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR); a national register that records vaccinations given at general practice and community clinics to people of all ages in Australia.
- Cold chain management:
Since November 2015, the Ministry of Health has required all practices with a vaccine account to own a data logger and download the data weekly. As technology improves, new data loggers are made available on the market. Please see our updated data logger information sheet for the latest in USB technology.
- Overseas history and catch-up schedules:
Some children may miss doses of routine childhood vaccines, in Australia or overseas. They should be vaccinated using an appropriate catch up schedule as soon as possible.
- Get prepped for Schoolies' Week: School leavers planning to celebrate Schoolies’ Week overseas should see their GP and be vaccinated against infectious diseases endemic in their travel destinations.
- Infanrix-IPV recommendations: The current recommendation for all children born before 1 October 2014 is to have Infanrix-IPV dose 4 at four years of age.
- Upcoming education events: There are still spots available for our cold chain workshop in the east. Also, SLHD are holding their 2016 Immunisation Update.
