2018-2019 Surveillance Plan Submission - Due date: June 30th

ALL Victorian public hospitals and aged care homes are required to submit their own individual VICNISS 2018-2019 Surveillance Plans.  These plans are due by 30th June 2018 and can be submitted via the VICNISS website User Portal > Manage Annual Surveillance Plan.

Please note that the Victorian health services performance monitoring framework 2018-19 has not yet been published.  This document will outline DHHS’s required surveillance activities for the forthcoming year.  If your submitted plan does not include these requirements you will need to update the plan when ‘the monitor’ is published.

NOTE:  A recording of the Webinar ‘How to submit annual Surveillance Plan’ is available as a refresher via this link.

Submit Annual Occupational Exposure (OE) Denominator in July

Two denominators are collected for the OE module – occupied bed-days (OBDs) and full-time employee equivalents (FTE).  This is a reminder that the FTE is required annually and must be submitted in the first quarter of the financial year, i.e. if submitting OE data in July 2018 the FTE must be submitted in this month.  For more information see VICNISS manual or contact VICNISS Coordinating Centre.

2018 HCW Influenza Vaccination Campaign

The 2018 HCW Influenza Vaccination campaign should now be well underway. A reminder that this year, Aged Care Homes are required to submit HCW Influenza Vaccination uptake data by each ACH. Acute hospitals may report by health service which includes any ACH’s data in the denominator and numerator, however, each ACH is still required to submit their own data. There is a separate data form for ACH data submission.

Due to unprecedented demand for influenza vaccination, supplies of the vaccine across the country has been restricted. The Victorian DHHS has recommended you prioritise direct care clinical staff, especially those who work in high risk clinical areas or who are themselves eligible under the NIP for free influenza vaccine. If you require further information please contact the Department’s Immunisation Unit on 1300 882 008.

Activation Lock Message on iPad Minis (‘Toolkit/s’)

In order to use your iPad mini to its full capabilities please ensure you have removed the restrictions and the HHA Apple ID. If you do not know how to do this or if your iPad mini is coming up with the message ‘Activation Lock’ and prompting you to enter an Apple ID and password, please contact jennifer.bradford@mh.org.au or phone 9342 9356.

National Hand Hygiene Initiative Audit 2 due by 30th June 2018

Once all data has been entered into HHCApp please remember to submit the completed audit, you do not have to wait until the due date. To do this login to HHCApp, select your Organisation, go to Audits, click on the name of the audit, click on Submit for approval.

Second Dose Surgical Antibiotic Prophylaxis

There has been a change to the SSI denominator form. Second dose of prophylactic antibiotic for procedures >3 hours now has a ‘not required’ option for settings where creatinine clearance <50ml/min (or eGFR<50) and antibiotic re-dosing is not required for a more prolonged period of time.

Surgical Antibiotic Prophylaxis (SAP) - New Web Form Available

The SAP web form is now available for electronic data submission. If you require assistance with this, contact VICNISS.
