Premiered at Gathering Wisdom IX, this video introduces leaders to the key themes of Gathering Wisdom, including a reflection on progress since health transfer, healing and resilience, reclaiming our wellbeing, and health as the foundation of nation-rebuilding.  It ends with a call to action for leaders to take up this work in their own communities.

First Nations people in BC had higher rates of asthma in 2014/15 compared to other people in the province​

Spring is a lovely time of the year, but as anyone with seasonal asthma and/or allergies knows all too well, it can also be the worst season for triggering these conditions. The wetter weather leads to the formation of various molds, and the inhalation of their airborne spores can cause asthma and allergy symptoms – shortness of breath, coughing, sneezing, wheezing and chest tightness. And although the new blooms popping up everywhere are beautiful, they're also "a-choo-ful" because of the ​pollen they contain!

In this message, Dr. McDonald talks briefly about what asthma is (the good news is that it's treatable and manageable) and how it relates to allergies, how Indigenous people in BC are affected (the bad news is, more than the general population), what resources and assistance are available for Indigenous people (including, of course, from the FNHA), and what you can do to manage the symptoms of your or your loved ones' asthma and allergy symptoms.

On May 18, 2018 Netflix released season two of the series 13 Reasons Why. A year ago, when season one was released, the show trended among many diverse audiences and we anticipate the same activity with season two. There will likely be similar concerns raised regarding the potential risk the series may have in sensationalizing suicide, especially among youth. At this time, the FNHA would like to offer advice in the event that it is a concern in your family, school or community.

It’s that time of the year where we celebrate BC’s 11th annual Privacy and Security Awareness Week (PSAW) from June 4-8 2018!

There is no better time to be reminded that privacy and security matters in our line of work. PSAW is an event observed by the whole health system including First Nations Health Authority, the Ministry of Health, and Regional Health Authorities
Privacy and Security Awareness week reminds us of our deep responsibilities in health care when dealing with personal information. As Legal Counsel I like to remind people that these duties are not limited to front-line employees, but other areas, such as corporate, quality improvement, and communications as well.

From April 18-20, 2018, political and health representatives from the three Island families—Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and Coast Salish—gathered in Snuneymuxw territory for Vancouver Island Spring Regional Caucus. The three days of community engagement were attended by 112 delegates, including 32 political leads, 27 health leads and nine social leads.

The first day of Caucus was dedicated to health services and programming offered through FNHA, and partnership work ​with the provincial and federal government.
