Dear Parents, I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful mid-Autumn Festival. School is back in session, and Friday marked the end of our first quintile. QSI strongly believes in the importance of regularly reporting student progress, and to this effect QSI divides the school year into five parts, or quintiles. Every quintile you will receive a status report of your child(ren)'s progress. Additionally, we schedule two official Parent/Teacher conferences per year to make sure you have an opportunity to discuss school matters in person. We cordially invite you to the first round of conferences on October 19 and 20. Please note that on these two days we have dismissal at 11:30 and no lunch will be served. Please also know that reporting of student progress and parent/teacher interactions are by no means limited to quintile status reports and P/T conferences. We encourage you to get in touch with teachers at any time if you have questions or concerns. QSI is in the process of rolling out a new student management system (QMS), and we hope to integrate several features which will enhance school to home communications, such as on-time updates of grades. In the meantime, please be aware of our Moodle online learning platform. We have scheduled some information sessions on Moodle during the P/T days. I hope to see you all next week and remain, Yours Sincerely, Dr. James W. Pilton, Ed.D. Dear Preschool & Primary Parents, I hope the beginning of autumn has been treating you well! Here in the primary school, we are looking forward to big events on the horizon! This week, we have parent-teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, we are offering Moodle sessions both days to help parents learn how to access their children's courses. Please see below for more information. Additionally, you should have received an email from your child's homeroom teacher with a link to a QSI parent survey. If you have not done so yet, please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. The end of October brings with it our annual Fall Festival. Although we have less outdoor space available from last year, this year's event is sure to be just as big, with a Haunted House and lots of fun games for children to play. I, for one, am looking forward to a spooktacular time! I look forward to seeing everyone during conferences. Sincerely, Happy Fall QSI Middle and Secondary Parents, A big couple of weeks ahead. On top of conferences, status updates, last week's PSAT test, and two CISA tournaments, we have our first dance of the year. Please ask your son or daughter about this week's Fall Fling! A couple of other items of note as well to remind you of: If your and your son or daughter have had discussions about your child's subject placement, such as why he or she is in Geometry or Algebra, or Math 13 instead of Math 12, be aware placement here is based on maturity, assessments, such as MAP, and teacher recommendations. Placement changes during the year are sometimes necessary, but all changes must involve a process through administration. If you have any questions about your child's placement, please contact me, and remember that proper placement is not a decision made for social reasons, or because a child simply wants to "move up". Placing a child at his or her correct learning level is essential to academic growth. Our Fall Festival is also right around the corner. All middle and secondary students are encouraged to attend. Many of our service organization participants from Roots and Shoots and Student Council will be helping with the event. We also began a Fall music performance series on Friday with our 12-year-olds performing at lunch. Finally, Science Fair is in full swing. Please ask your child to explain what they are doing for their project and be in touch with their science teacher to make sure that they are prepared for this year's fair. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday and that you're looking forward to a busy few weeks here at QSI. Sincerely, |
