Gateway-2-Health is a monthly newsletter delivering project updates and key information on the Health Gateway to Industry Schools project being delivered by CheckUP. Our project team is working closely with Queensland schools and health industry employers to promote career pathways and support students' understanding of the varied and in-demand roles in the health sector. We will also help to facilitate learning and experiential opportunities for both students and teachers.

Our First Health Gateway School
The Health Gateway team accompanied CheckUP CEO, Ann Maree Liddy to Bentley Park College in Cairns on Monday, 24 August 2020 for the official signing of the project's first Memorandum of Understanding. As a Health Gateway School, Bentley Park College will facilitate learning opportunities for students who are interested in pursuing a health career. The school will also work in collaboration with neighbouring schools in the Cairns South region. We also visited the school's recently launched Virtual Reality Training Centre which will be used to deliver audio-visual and experiential learning to students.
CheckUP will continue to engage with and onboard other schools that have applied to participate in the project through Term 4 2020. Pictured above - Bruce Houghton, Principal, Bentley Park College and

With the restrictions being eased over the last couple of months, CheckUP has been visiting students at school events and expos around the State, introducing students to the wide range of career opportunities available within Queensland's health sector. Two such events were the Way Beyond Today Health Industry Panel held by Kelvin Grove State College, and the Cairns Careers Expo organised by the Business Liaison Association in Cairns. CheckUP staff interacted with students from Years 9-12, introducing them to the CYO Health Career website and handing out promotional items and resources. You can invite the Gateway team to come and speak with your students at
your school's next career event by emailing gateway@checkup.org.au or clicking the link below.
With many of the Careers Expos scheduled for 2020 being cancelled due to COVID-19, CheckUP is looking for alternative opportunities to engage with students. Virtual expos enable students to access information on up-to-date training and education opportunities across multiple industries, regardless of location. CYO is having its first national debut at the VELG Virtual VET Expo being held online from 26-30 October 2020. The expo is free for attendees and also features an interactive chat function to engage in real-time with the exhibitors.

Alongside the ongoing engagement with schools as Health Gateway Schools, the team has been working hard on the development of resources for students, VET Coordinators and teaching staff.. These will include a series of physical collateral and digital resources to promote student engagement and support their awareness of opportunities in the health sector. Resources will be developed throughout 2020-2021 and made available exclusively to Gateway school students and staff on the new Health Gateway website, which is currently being developed. If your school currently offers students pathways in health or is planning on in the future and would like to seek support from the Health Gateway project, click the button below to view our application
process.
Schools that have previously applied will be contacted by CheckUP to discuss the development of a Gateway Activity Plan and the following signing of an MoU.
