Why Non-Moms Are an Asset to Mothers Everywhere
By Mentor and Board Alumna Marci Alboher
“For years, I’ve been a supporter and champion of Girls Write Now, a mentoring-through-writing program that is a hotbed of intergenerational relationships. I was drawn to this particular community because I felt I had something to offer to young people who are mostly aspiring first-generation college students (like I was), but I get a whole lot more than I give. I now have a collection of young women who are part of my life in various ways—some feel like mentees, some are friends, others are woven into my writing or professional life.”
Inner Critic vs. Inner Mentor
By Jesse Jagtiani, Community Manager, Writing 360
As mentees prepare for their final submission of the program year, it's important to check in with yourself and celebrate the work you've done. Use this prompt from Jesse to pause, reflect and rejuvenate: Write for 5 minutes in the voice of any one of your inner critics.
Take a 15 minute deep breathing break.
Now, write for 10 minutes in the voice of your inner mentor and cheerleader.
