New eRegister based on WHF framework for patient registers

On 8th October, the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa published an article by Joris van Dam, John Musuku, Liesl J Zühlke and others titled ‘An open-access, mobile compatible, electronic patient register for rheumatic heart disease (‘eRegister’) based on the World Heart Federation’s framework for patient registers’. The new 'eRegister' based on WHF framework for patient registers presents many practical benefits.

News from Sudan – National RHD Awareness Day

School awareness campaign as part of the National RHD Awareness Day in Sudan Sponsored by the Sudanese Children's Heart Society and Premier Company for Food Products, Sudan celebrated National RHD Awareness Day on 17 August 2015. Special radio and TV programmes were commissioned, and 2000 posters and educational pamphlets were distributed in Khartoum and other RHD target areas in Sudan: Darfur, Kordofan, White Nile and Gezira. To celebrate National RHD Awareness Day, a school awareness campaign was run in the peripheries of Khartoum, where the incidence and prevalence of RHD is very high. The media were receptive to this campaign, and most newspapers featured it as headline news.

News from Sudan II – Launch of ARF and RHD Guidelines at Physician Workshop

Sudan's new Guidelines for RHD were launched last month, marked by a workshop on RHD management based on published guidelines on 22 August 2015. The workshop was attended by 65 physicians, of whom 25 were from Sudan’s four RHD target areas. The book of guidelines was distributed widely at its launch, alongside posters and pamphlets which continue to be distributed locally.

Update: RHD Australia's Diagnosis Calculator App RHD Australia has developed a diagnostic tool for rheumatic fever utilising the Australian RHD guidelines. The tool included an innovative information tab/button that helps guide clinicians through the complex diagnostic pathway which ultimately minimises the chance of under diagnosis.
