Purpose is the why, shared value is the how |
I can’t help but feel optimistic following our fifth Shared Value Summit Asia Pacific. In five short years we have built what shared value co-creator Professor Michael Porter called one of “the most powerful groups of people in the world”.
Indeed, the collective potential of the corporate leaders, innovators and visionaries in Sydney last month was palpable; and as we contemplated the relationship between purpose and shared value, one concept in particular struck a chord - if purpose is the why then shared value is the how.
But with such regional progress and high calibre resources comes the question: Where to next? And, who is responsible?
Whilst the answer to the first question is ever unfolding, if we have learned anything along our journey, it is that no single agent or sector can achieve the positive disruption we seek alone. It will take all of us, and there is no time to rest on our laurels. As Daniel Epstein, CEO, Unreasonable Group said, "When it comes to shared value, impatience is a virtue".
What this powerful community needs to ask itself when considering who will lead the next evolution of Business on Purpose is if not us, together, then who?
Thank you again to those who joined our Summit, and I hope that you are all as optimistic as I am about what we can achieve through shared value in the future.
