Access to ground-breaking HIV prevention drug one step closer for Australians
On 9 February the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee announced that PrEP will be subsidised by the Australian Government through the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme. Click here to view a PrEP fact sheet. PrEP is an antiretroviral treatment taken by HIV negative people at high risk of acquiring HIV to prevent infection. Studies show it to be extremely effective in reducing risk of acquiring HIV.

Be screened at Bondi Beach
The BreastScreen mobile van is scheduled to visit Bondi Beach from 5 March until 16 March 2018. It will be located on Park Drive South behind Bondi Pavilion. The screening process takes 20 minutes and is completely free. All women aged 50-74 years should have a breast screen every two years.

Telstra Health launches My Chooser website for NDIS community
Telstra Health has launched a new online marketplace called My Chooser to help participants in the NDIS find local providers of healthcare services for their care plans. The site is currently in a registration phase and is being marketed to providers to list their services.
Providers of services such as carers and support workers can sign up here.
Seeking expressions of interest to present at the Primary Mental Health Care Conference
The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses have opened expressions of interest for those who would like to present at the 2018 Primary Mental Health Care Conference in Melbourne. Every presentation within the session must be focused on ‘the future of work’ in mental health, however the specific topic you choose to speak about is entirely up to you.

New national coeliac disease awareness campaign
Coeliac Australia’s new national campaign highlights the face of coeliac disease as diverse as the range of possible symptoms. The campaign aims to increase awareness in the community throughout Coeliac Awareness Week 13-20 March 2018. Coeliac disease affects 1 in 70 of the population but only 20 per cent of Australians with the condition have a medical diagnosis.

The latest data released: 140,000 Australians are now benefitting from the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Agency today released the latest NDIS Quarterly Report showing that more than 140,000 Australians are now benefitting from the NDIS as the reform continues to roll out across the country. The report also showed that the NDIS continues to support participants to achieve their goals and encourage more community participation.

‘Getting ready for My NDIS Plan’ booklet for children aged 7-14
This resource helps support children and young people in the development of their NDIS plan. It is important that they are given the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to direct their own lives and make decisions that will impact the way they live their life. It allows them to reflect on the supports they receive and how well they are working for them; or the supports they would like to receive.

Diagnosis of cirrhosis can be scary and this new booklet helps to support patients. The aim is to help people better understand what is happening so that they can make the best decisions for treatment and health. The booklet was developed with the involvement of various clinicians and, most importantly, people affected by liver cirrhosis/transplant.
