Form 4 Outdoors PursuitsOn 4-5 September Form 4 pupils went on an overnight visit to Kippure Holiday Village, County Wicklow. On the first day we went on a three-hour hike to the top of the mountains. The walk was very muddy, wet, and foggy and it felt like we were up in the clouds. The camp leaders taught us how to filter water and how to start a fire in the wild. When we finally made our fires, we cooked our dinners which consisted of burgers, sausages, and potatoes. We put up our tents and set up our sleeping bags before setting off on a late-night hike beside the River Liffey: it was quite fascinating. After that we started the campfire, roasted some marshmallows, and went to bed. The next day we completed rope activities such as the rock climbing, high and low ropes, and
the "leap of faith" which were quite scary but we encouraged each other to give it a try. Altogether it was a good experience we really got to bond with each other. Welcoming our Argentinian FriendsOn Thursday 7 September, St Gregory's College from Buenos Aires, Argentina arrived at The High School as part of an end-of-year tour. They came with a hockey and rugby team as well as their orchestra and choir. Our Form 4 rugby squad took on their rugby team early in the afternoon. The first half of the match was a good contest with The High School ahead by a narrow margin but the well-organised St Gregory side rallied and took it away in the second half winning by 26-12. Our junior girls played the Argentinean hockey team. It was a well-fought battle but both defences were too strong as the game finished 0-0. Then came the musical part of the day as their choir performed for us in The Reynolds Hall. The High School orchestra played, conducted by our
new music teacher, Ms Lee; a number of soloists performed too. It was great to have a chance to welcome pupils from another country to our school. A Home Economics TreatForm 1 pupils really enjoyed their first day baking. On the menu were delicious chocolate chip cookies!
