This week Editor Katherine Ziesing mourns the passing of a defence SME that had seemingly ticked all the right boxes for success. A new report highlighting the vital role of collaboration in building defence capability is out and the NSW Defence Collaboration Symposium grappled with what collaboration really looks like yesterday.

In other news a new SATCOM capability for rotary platforms will be on show at Avalon and Lockheed Martin teams with Geosciences Australia on augmented GPS for higher safety-of-life navigation requirements.

The Essington Lewis Awards (known formerly as the ADM/DMO Excellence in Collaboration Awards) will make a return this year after a short hiatus. We are currently seeking expressions of interest with a deadline set for March 21,
