The sporting calendar never stops, and if you love sport - that's a good thing! No sooner than we draw the curtains on the English cricket season, one of the most prestigious series in the game looms. That, of course, will be the Ashes, which will be played Down Under, up to and over the festive period. In this month's blog, we take a look at the historical significance of England vs Australia in Test cricket, and consider why a small 'urn' came to mean so much. Not to be missed events next monthEngland's 2nd Ashes Test December starts with England's 2nd Ashes Test (2nd - 6th December) at Adelaide, a traditionally spinner-friendly venue - will Moeen Ali and co. be able to use the conditions to their advantage? There will be an interesting twist to this game - it is a day night Test; one of the few to be played since the ICC gave the go ahead for floodlit test cricket. Will this have a bearing as England look to establish a foothold in the series? Rugby League World Cup Another huge event held in Australia will be at boiling point as the Rugby League World Cup comes to a climax with the final (2nd December) in Brisbane. Over on our side of the equator, in rugby union the Autumn Internationals are in full swing, with Wales hosting South Africa (2nd December) at the Principality Stadium. Wales hold a tremendous recent record against the fiercesome Springboks, having beaten them in two of the last three matches played between the two teams, including in last season's corresponding fixture. Can the hosts spring another surprise against these titans of the sport? The Ashes at Christmas Moving through to Christmas, and the Ashes will once again have the spotlight, as an age old tradition is upheld in the series. Australia and England will face off in the Boxing Day Test (26th - 30th December) at Melbourne's huge MCG ground, and will hope to still have a lot to play for come this penultimate five day game of their tour.
