Both Exhibition Nights will take place from 5-6:30pm at UDA. In addition, Panera Bread will donate 20% of its proceeds from purchases by UDA families and friends to The Foundation from 4-8pm on each Exhibition Night (Present a flyer for Wednesday and/or Thursday at time of ordering). Thank you to our Network for organizing this fun dine out night for our families! Library Grand OpeningOur school library officially opened for classroom check outs last week! Thank you to the middle school students who stayed after school to help prep and organize this space. We appreciate your patience through the construction, organization, and staffing phases. Book FairThe next Scholastic Book Fair is coming to UDA this week! The Paws for Books themed fair will be open to students and families before and after school from March 2-8. Wednesday Programming PerformancesOn Wednesday, March 7, students from two of our Wednesday Programs will showcase musical performances highlighting their learning throughout the second trimester. Please join us for the celebration! Piano Keyboard Performance Musical Theater Performance AthleticsBoys Basketball Girls Basketball Coffee SocialJoin UDA administration, the Network, and UDA parents/guardians for coffee and conversation following Stellar Student Awards on Friday, March 2. The coffee social will begin around 8:15am in the Hive. This is a great way to meet other families, learn about upcoming events, and get updates directly from school administration. Conference Day ProgrammingThis trimester, parent/teacher conferences will be held on March 6, 7, and 8 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Students will be released at 12pm on each of these days, and free programming will be provided until 3pm in order to accommodate families on Tuesday and Thursday, since these are regularly full school days. If your child will attend STAR on Tuesday or Thursday, you must register him/her for Conference Day Programming. Students will eat a lunch from home or a purchased lunch from Top Notch on these days. At 3pm, students will be released from the parking lot like usual, however, parents may pick up their child before 3pm if they wish. You must complete a registration form for EACH day you would like to enroll your child by Sunday, March 4. Students who are not registered by this date will not be permitted to participate. Soapbox DerbyThis April and May, the All-American Soapbox Derby will be held in San Diego. To prepare interested students for this event, free workshops are being offered behind Bread and Salt each Saturday. These workshops are free for children ages 7-21, and car models are assigned based on age group. Through the workshops, participating children will learn hand tool use and the science and engineering skills needed to create their models. Visit the Soapbox Derby website for more information on this event. Online Uniform Pick-UpOnline uniform orders that were placed on or before February 5 have arrived at UDA. Please stop by the front office to pick up your order. 2018-2019 Applications Due this MonthFamilies that are interested in enrolling a sibling of a student currently enrolled at UDA must submit an application for each sibling by February 28, 2018 through SchoolMint. Similarly, if any friends of our current families are interested in enrolling a student, please remind them that all applications must be submitted by February 28 in order to be entered into the lottery. Sixth GradeSixth grade students rode the trolley to the Living Coast Discovery Center where they participated in a Watershed Chemistry Lab. Through this lab, the students were able to make connections to the learning of local watersheds and pollution occurring in the classroom. The students are looking forward to sharing their research and Water Works project next week at exhibition! Seventh GradeIn 7th grade math and science, students are working on creating models, IGNITE presentations, and a research paper on plate tectonic and what happens when they collide. In humanities, the 7th graders are discussing how they can better our country and overcome adversity. Students were asked to pick one topic they stand for, and their responses were truly moving! To name a few, our students stand for “independence,” “mental health,” “kindness,” “freedom,” “acceptance,” “gay rights,” “equality,” and “health care for everyone.” The students will continue to delve deeper into these topics as they begin the third trimester. Visual ArtsSecond grade students are creating personalized souvenirs from China, such as Chinese letters and colorful hair sticks. User accounts from last year do not carry over, so all parents must register for the 2017-2018 year. To register, click on “Order Online Today” from the homepage, then select “Register.” On this page, you will need to enter the password for UDA, which is URA6. Upon entering the password, you will be able to complete the registration process by creating your own username and password. Families that meet the free or reduced qualification according to this form will receive discounted Top Notch lunches. The discount will be automatically applied to each order. Online orders must be placed by 6pm on the day before the lunch delivery. Top Notch can not supply lunches requested after this deadline. Reporting AbsencesPlease remember to report student absences by 9:00 am on the day of your child’s absence.
