As we welcome our newest member and first health care provider Opal Aged Care to our Founding membership, we reflect on the contribution that has been made to the growth of the shared value movement regionally in 2016.

Highlights of 2106 include:

  • Inaugural Shared Value panel discussion and briefing held in Auckland, New Zealand hosted by BNZ in partnership with IAG, with more than 60 NZ business leaders;
  • First Shared Value Consulting Affiliate Training Program delivered in Australia in partnership with the Shared Value Initiative;
  • 2016 Shared Value Forum hosted in Melbourne in April and sponsored by NAB, IAG, DFAT and AFR Boss that explored the theme Business: Partnering for Change;
  • Recognition of NAB as Australia’s first headquartered company to appear on the Fortune Magazine 2016 ‘Change the World’ List at No.22;
  • Release of the new Harvard Business Review article ‘The Ecosystem of Shared Value’ by FSG’s Mark Kramer and Marc Pfitzer;
  • Inaugural Shared Value Awards program which recognized companies and individuals who are embracing shared value principals;
  • Convened a dinner with Prof Michael Porter in Hong Kong which was hosted by Chief Secretary Carrie Lam and engaged some of Hong Kong’s preeminent business leaders;
  • Inaugural Non Executive Director roundtable lunch hosted by AIA Australia and with board representatives from leading Australian companies.

Member update: Opal Aged Care becomes newest Founding Member

We are pleased to announce that Opal Aged Care has become our first member from the health care sector. Opal Aged Care is one of Australia’s largest residential aged care providers, owns and operates 60 homes in four states providing specialist residential aged care for a range of needs including dementia and respite care.

We look forward to supporting Opal Aged Care as they align their business strategy with shared value, and strengthen their leading position in the industry and in the delivery of high quality care to Australia's ageing population.

NAB 2017 Financial Inclusion Action Plan

NAB has released their 2017 Financial Inclusion Action Plan, it details the activities the organisation is taking to tackle financial exclusion and improve the financial resilience of customers and the community, especially people on low incomes.

Along with 11 other organisations, NAB have joined the Financial Inclusion Action Plan program developed by Good Shepherd Microfinance and partners EY, Centre for Social Impact and the Australian Government. These organisations are playing an active role in helping people who are excluded from mainstream banking to access fair and affordable financial products and services.

Shared Value Champion: Dom Thurbon, Karrikins Group

In this month’s member interview series, we feature Dom Thurbon, Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Karrikins Group, a global consulting firm. Dom shares his experience with shared value and the role it plays at Karrikins Group as growth orientated consulting firm, working with their clients to form initiatives and programs in business transformation and community investment.

New York: 2017 Shared Value Leadership Summit 9-10 May

Mark your calendar for the 2017 Shared Value Leadership Summit to be held on Tuesday 9 May and Wednesday 10 May at the Conrad New York. The Shared Value Initiative will be hosting the global Summit for the fourth time in New York City and will feature a two-day agenda gathering more than 400 shared value practitioners.
