Your monthly all staff email! Welcome to 2020!Hi there,So here we are at the start of another new decade, three weeks into Term Two and already the Union is in full swing. Refreshers was an enormous success with all events, day and night, well attended, and I always feel extremely proud of the commitment you all show in supporting the delivery of these. The highlights of the week were Refreshers Fair, which had a significant number of students engage with clubs and societies for the new term, Becky Hill’s performance at Pop! on the Friday night and Alumni Sports Day, which saw a victory for Alumni this year. Academic Rep Conference was held on Wednesday 29 January and was a great success, well done to all those involved. We had over 70 students and University staff attend to discuss issues relating to inclusive education, which is the campaign that VP Education Kate Roberts has been running all week. It also saw the launch of our first Student Voice Report: BAME Inclusive Student Experience. This week will see the release of Summer Ball tickets, which go live tomorrow. As with previous years, we are offering all our final year student staff the opportunity to secure a half-price ticket as a thank you for your hard work. Look out for an email on this later today! Finally, I know that the festive period is far behind us, but we always have a lot to look forward to, and plenty to keep us busy. It will be good to see you all at some point over the coming weeks, whether working or enjoying one of the upcoming events. Max Ross Sabbatical Officers We've had two awesome campaign weeks – Lucy’s Eat Well, Feel Well nutrition campaign, and Kate’s Inclusive Education campaign, which also featured Academic Rep Conference yesterday! We are also gearing up for the release of our Careers Support and PGR Student Experience policy inquiry reports, which is an exciting step for the SU. There is also ongoing work on the University strategy, including a focus on sustainability, which Sophia has been feeding into, and you can get involved here. Venues First of all, a huge thank you for all your hard work during Refreshers, we saw record-breaking numbers at the SU and Tommy's and we're extremely happy to have you in our team. We decided it was time for a little bit of fun, so we've planned a Boat Party on Tuesday 4 February with external bar staff so you can have the night off and let your hair down! If you've ordered any fleeces for your shifts, they are now ready to collect from the Helpdesk! Retail The Union Shop is starting to get ready for Valentine's Day and Easter with tons of new products arriving soon, so staff will need to keep up the great work stocking up the shelves. After trialing a higher shelf in-store, we will now be rolling it out across the rest of the shop, so please bear in mind that we'll be selling all the slow-selling stock, and products need to be pulled forward every night. The NUS compliance visit from January went really well, but when restocking, please be careful with any promotional signage that gets knocked off and try to put it back in place. Student Opportunities The Student Opps team is holding the next round of Union Bus tests, which means our wonderful Helpdesk Assistants will be working on some admin in the coming weeks. They're also preparing for Society Awards, Colours Ball and Varsity! Student Voice There are only eight days until SU Elections nominations close, so our Voice team is very busy ensuring that everything is ready for the next stage, voting! Remember that we encourage all our student staff to run for election and become the new leaders of the SU! Marketing & Communications Some big changes will be coming from our Marcomms team as we're building a brand new staff intranet, a portal for all staff to access any important information about their job in just a few clicks. It will be a hub for all things staff, like your HR documents, important training, and induction dates. HR & Finance Recruitment for Duty Manager and Supervisor roles are live! So if you're interested in taking up a higher position at the SU, make sure you apply before midnight on Sunday 16 February. A massive thank you! As a Students' Union, all the work we do is based on five main values: Brave, Student Focused, High Quality, Inclusive and Trustworthy. Every single month we have outstanding staff that work extremely hard, ensuring that these values are represented across all sectors of the Union. Because of this, we introduced Values Rewards - a £5 gift voucher to spend in any of our venues, to say thank you for your hard work. This month, we've given Values Rewards to staff members within the Venues team - you can check them all out below! Thank you for helping us make student life better at Royal Holloway. And finally... We have some incredible news to share with you, in case you can't already tell from the photo, Licensed Trade Manager Danny Taylor is a dad! Congratulations to you and your wife, and a huge welcome to little Jamie Andrew Christopher Taylor. We wish you all the best, enjoy paternity leave! |
