Hey ,

It's Thursday again, which means I get to spam invade your inbox. :)

You'll also note that this newsletter is reaching you a little later in the day than the newsletter of the last couple of weeks. The reason for that is that I'm travelling to Europe for the 2nd time in about 2 weeks and due to the long haul flights, time has been pretty scarce.

So I'm at the airport now waiting for my flight to Amsterdam (and then Prague). Sitting in the airport lounge, missing my family and dreading another 16-hour transit, I'm weighing up the pro's & cons of this lifestyle. On the one hand, I'm incredibly privileged to be able to travel regularly (and I get to speak at awesome conferences), but on the other hand I have to sacrifice a lot to do so: time, energy and being away from my family.

If you caught me on a bad day, I'd probably agree that this was more a case of entrepreneurshit.

But thinking about all of this, I'm convinced that this is a good thing and a great experience. Knowing that I'm incredibly blessed has prompted me to write down a list of (at least) 10 reasons why I love my "job" and love being an entrepreneur.

10-odd reasons why I love being an entrepreneur

I generally don't like lists, but here goes.

  1. I get to work on things that I'm passionate about. Even to the extent where that pursuit of passion is more important than money.
  2. I have the space to figure out what work+life balance means to me. Some days that means Teletubbies with Adii Jr over lunch & other days that means working until midnight because I have a Skype call with someone on the West Coast.
  3. I'm creating jobs and importantly, I'm allowed to take responsibility for the livelihood of the team members that join me. I absolutely thrive on having this kind of responsibility and I absolutely love building a team.
  4. I've made so many friends as a result of being an entrepreneur. The biggest bonus is that most of these friends are like-minded entrepreneurs who have helped me in some kind of way.
  5. I get to take risks and make mistakes, which is a crucial part of my own learning process.
  6. I can compete (in a good way), which is great for me as I'm a really bad loser. Doing business really gets my adrenaline going and it's one of the main reasons that I can easily get up at 6am in the morning.
  7. I'm in the position to pay it forward and help others. This is my ultimate passion and I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real dent in the universe.
  8. I've been invited to many conferences worldwide, which means travelling, experiencing different cultures and meeting new people.
  9. A part of my success, has helped me publish a book and has helped me build enough of an audience so that you guys and girls actually read my writing. That's special and I'm honoured to have your attention.
  10. I'll never be in as good a position to influence my own destiny. Having the opportunity to work on the things that really matter to me in the way that most suits me is the kind of freedom I think everyone craves.

I could probably go on, but going through that list you should get an idea of who I am and why I do the things I do.

Why are you an entrepreneur? What do you live or don't love about it?

Reply to this e-mail and tell me, because I'd love to get to know you. :)

Cheers
