Local practice networks in August

SEMPHN-facilitated local Practice Networks are an ideal place to get together with your peers, as well as hearing from presenters and invited guests.

August Practice Network meetings are scheduled at:

The Practice Managers presentation will discuss suicide prevention and up-skilling clinical staff to create a supportive environment within practices.

The Nurses presentation will cover optimal care pathways for people with bowel cancer.

Network meetings are held every two months in each location. A light dinner is provided, with dedicated time to talk among yourselves after the presentations.

Participants will also be invited to an online information sharing network via Basecamp.

First timers can register via our website Events page.

For more information contact Kate Ryan on 8514 6608 or email kate.ryan@semphn.org.au.

Equally Well

SEMPHN supports the Equally Well Consensus Statement, launched in Canberra last week by National Mental Health Commission Chair, Professor Alan Fels.

Equally Well calls for better collaboration and coordination between governments, professional bodies, social and community services and other leaders in mental health to make the physical health of people living with mental illness a national priority. The public launch of the Equally Well initiative is an important step forward to address this priority.

Equally Well and its 53 supporting organisations, including SEMPHN, promote:

  • a holistic, person centred approach to physical and mental health and wellbeing
  • effective promotion, prevention and early intervention
  • equity of access to all services
  • improved quality of health care
  • care coordination and regional integration across health, mental health and other services and sectors which enable a contributing life
  • the monitoring of progress towards improved physical health and wellbeing.

More youth mental health support

Young people seeking help to deal with the pressures of life will benefit from a $500,000 Australian Government investment in better online mental health support.

ReachOut — the online mental health organisation for young people — has today unveiled a new digital platform that significantly expands its ability to help young people and their parents.

The Australian Government contributed over $500,000 to the development of the new platform, dubbed ReachOut Next Generation.
