It’s time to talk about what your College has to offer, what to expect on arrival’s day, and what happens during your welcome week. What your College has to offerAll Colleges offer the opportunity to play sport, stand for election, volunteer, organise events or just relax, socialise and meet new people. All of this is facilitated by your College Team and elected student committee in collaboration with YUSU, our Students' Union. The College Music SchemeMusic is a great way to support your wellbeing, learn skills, make friends and have fun. From workshops to jam sessions, joining a choir or borrowing an instrument, the College Music Scheme grants you access to music facilities and opportunities. College SportWith over 1,500 students competing for their College every week, no matter your skill level, there’s a sports team that’s just right for you. Whether you’re looking to make friends, keep active or take your skills to the next level, College Sport is a fantastic way to get involved and represent your College community. Find out more about college sports membership and how to join below. College Events and ActivitiesAll Colleges host a wide range of regular online and in-person events for everyone to get involved. They’re a great way of meeting like-minded students, while developing your skills and interests. From competing in cross-college competitions to taking part in a gaming night, an art workshop or a movie night; there’s something for everyone. We know that not all of our international students will be able to get here for our arrival’s weekend, due to travel restrictions. We will be extending our welcome events throughout October to allow for this. More information will be shared with everyone soon. Your College Founding CommitteeEach year, all our undergraduate colleges elect a student committee to represent you and your community as well as organising a huge range of events and community building activities. As we are a new college, we recruited a brand new committee over the summer who are currently busy arranging some wonderful welcome week events. They’re here to represent you, support you and make sure you have fun throughout the year! Arrivals DayWe’re really looking forward to meeting you very soon! To support the health and wellbeing of our community, the University is encouraging all new students and anyone they are travelling with to take a lateral flow test before departing for York. We strongly encourage the use of face coverings when moving inside your communal areas - for example, the entrances and corridors of central buildings and accommodation blocks. Please make sure to arrive during your booked time slot - this helps us to better manage the number of students moving in each day. Freshers Week ActivitiesAfter you’ve settled in, there is a packed week of events and activities to get involved with, where you’ll meet new people and make the most of your new community. As we are a brand new college, we have partnered with our closest neighbours, Goodricke College to offer you a Freshers Week full of fantastic events. If you would like to purchase a Freshers Week Ticket, please buy a Goodricke College ticket below. The Goodricke student committee are making the finishing touches to their Freshers Week events and will be able to share them with you very soon. To keep up to date and find out more, head to the Goodricke College Freshers Facebook page. Vice Chancellor’s Welcome TalkOn Wednesday and Thursday of Welcome Week, VC Professor Charlie Jeffery and YUSU President Patrick O’Donnell will be giving a Welcome Talk to all new students.
