REDS GLOBAL NEWSLETTEREDITION 17 - July 2017
MESSAGESA WORD FROM JASON REDMAN Hello Team,
- A 'Run Down' of the month
- Safety Update
- Added Benefits of working for Reds Global
I hope this newsletter finds you all well and safe. I have to say, it is wonderful to work with such an amazing team. The operations and on site teams have delivered again on the following jobs: - Breakfast Point dismantle. This project went for close to 3 years which is outstanding.
- Opal tower final tie and climb
- Dismantle CTL340 from Gleb
- Preperation of 2 x CTL340's
- Erection of 2 x CTL340's at Lane Cove
- Erection of a CTT561 at Rouse Hill
- Relocation of the CTT161 at Glebe
- Erected 2 x brand new CTL430's at UTS
- Dismantle the CTL430 at Lindfield
- Climb crane#1 - CTT561 at Avantra a massive 2 meters and removed the climbing frame.
It is during these times that team members real traits come to the floor. All of this work was undertaken at times with inclement weather and tight time frames. I can happily say that each job was met on time and safely.
The Reds Global team get the job done and always with a happy smile on their faces. A special thank you to some suppliers that really made a wonderful contribution to the outcome of the above works:
- Hugh and the team at Suttons
- Bill and the team at K&W Haulage
- George and the team at Coast Wide Fabrications
- Darrell and the team at Signing On
Every week our site teams are delivering and this is a fantastic outcome for our clients.
Safety: WE 'R' SAFETY FIRST
I would like to share with you some "approximate stats" from a book by the name of "Black Box Thinking". Preventable medical errors in hospitals is the 3rd biggest killer in the United States - behind only heart disease and cancer. This is equivalent to two jumbo jets falling out of the sky every 24 hours. The health care industry has a practice of non-reporting and sweeping it under the rug. In total contrast, the aviation industry adopts a practice of full disclosure of all incidents for the benefit of the entire industry. Unlike Healthcare and its practice of denying failure, Aviation learns from failure and is deep rooted into the culture of those that work in it. Mistakes are not stigmatised, but regarded as learning opportunities and the benefits of this system work. Incident rates have fallen dramatically since the 1970's and it improves almost
year on year. Latest stats have it that there is one accident for every 8.3 million take-offs.
This week I had the pleasure of investigating 2 incidents on site and it was fantastic to see a few of the teams face to face. That is the part that I most enjoy when visiting sites. I would like to share some of my learning with the team. When coming up against a new kind of lift (one that you have never done before): - Assess the situation.
- Ask the question: 'are there engineers design lifting points or a methodology for lifting?'
- Discuss with your team including the driver and other dogman in the crew.
- Discuss with the site team leader and ask the question: 'how has this been lifted safely before?'
- JSA: run a 'Job Safety Analysis'.
- Call the RG Team in the office. We are here to provide you with assistance with anything you require within reason. Any lifting equipment, a technician, engineer or an expert in that field. Reds Global can
assist with all of our teams and clients and inform them of the reason for hold point and assessment of the lift or complexity. This way we can be the knowledge sharer.
In taking the above steps it can provide massive opportunity to avoid any incidents or potentials. If Reds Global touches it, we own the responsibility. It is important to ask yourself, who or what reason do you have to go home safe every day. I ask that you keep this picture in your mind and prior to any decision you make sure you think about it and keep you and your work mates safe.
Reds Global does not believe that getting hurt at work is acceptable. Please turn your phones off.
Extra Benefits for working for Reds Global
I am sure all team members understand Reds Global's stance on health and looking after yourself. You are what you eat '5 minutes of the lips, 10 years on the hips'. I believe one of the most important aspects is mental health. The tools and confidential people to assist with any challenges can be expensive and hard to find. Reds Global has a suggestion to help:
Reds Global will now provide exclusively via 'EASA' for it's employees and limited to your spouses, confidential experts to assist with: - Family issues
- Work issues
- Health
- Alcohol and Drugs
- Grief / Trauma
- Stress etc
Recently, we had a team member within Reds Global that required some assistance with some personal
challenges. This lead me to connect with EASA and we have now signed up for all our employees.
I would like all team members to promote this to your work collegues. This will greatly assist if people are going through a tough time. This service will give you the confidential tools to assist with your challanges.
A great big thanks to all the team for a great month and remember people are Reds Global's greatest asset.
All the best.
A WORD FROM DAVID BROWN Welcome to the latest newsletter. We hope that you are all keeping fit and healthy and not suffering from a cold or flu. Over the past few weeks Reds Global have been conducting audits on site and we have found that there is still some confusion regarding what the role of the team leader is and that of the crane crew in regards to the documentation. It is very important that you all understand your role when it comes to inspections, audits, documentation and your role as a member of a team. Under Legislation we must work together to monitor and manage risks in the work place and by not completing daily and weekly checks on site we
are not fore filling our obligation to the relevant Legislation. If you require any assistance with understanding your role, please let us know so we can assist. We are in this together so please let us assist you. It can be a phone call or we can attend site to offer you help in any areas required. Please let us know how we can make your site, your documentation and your team better.
We have had many discussions regarding the use of mobile phones on site and this is becoming a very dangerous practice. It seems that when I walk on site there are a multitude of persons talking, using social media or taking pictures of other peoples unfortunate mishaps. It is common to see people taking pictures of incidents or accidents and putting them on social media without any thoughts to family members, or the investigations that may take place. Please be reminded that Reds Global have a mobile phone policy in place that you have all signed on to. If you would like a copy of this policy to review, please advise the office so we can get this document out to you. We are Reds Global and we are a
team of exceptional persons working hard to achieve great things. Please keep giving that additional 10% and you will make change to your work and private lives. Thank you and please call me at any time to discuss the above items. Until next month, keep smiling :-)
A WORD FROM DAMIEN LAFOREST Payment Summaries
You would have received your PAYG Payment Summary via email at the beginning of July. If you have not received it I would suggest you check your spam folders just in case. Failing that, email finance@redsglobal.com and this can be emailed to you. Check Your Details
It is your responsibility to inform us of a change in details, whether it be your home address, email address, mobile phone number or even emergency contact details. It is imperative this information is kept up to date. Again, anything changes please email finance@redsglobal.com. finance@redsglobal.com Site Documentation
All site paperwork is legal documentation, lets treat it as such. Always use first and last name, no nicknames please. I cannot stress the importance of receiving all site documents by 10am each Monday morning. In this day and age, paperwork is a fundamental aspect of work life and Reds Global must tow the line. I will be taking a greater interest in the timely receipt of documentation and the content. It is an area we all need to improve and we have number of people to educate those that request it. Super Funds
I have fielded a number of phone calls regarding superannuation funds. It is true that every employee has the right to select their own super fund, except those covered by an enterprise agreement where it is stated. Our EBA that many of you voted on states specifically that CBUS is the only compliant super fund. You may have been with an alternative fund for many years and I understand this can be frustrating. There is an entire page dedicated to this in the EBA. If your interested, check out clause 24.3
