Re-enrolment

Don’t forget, re-enrolment for 2017 is now open. Re-enrolling in all of your subjects on time allows us to run as many subjects and classes as possible – leaving it until next year may mean that we will re-schedule or pull some subjects. By re-enrolling now, you can secure your place and the subjects you want. You can always swap later.

If your are re-assessing your major options and want some guidance, the course planner on the my.science app allows you to enter the science subjects you did in 1st year, and will show you the different major pathways that you are set up for. There are also plenty of new sample course plans (including our two new majors, Data Science and Environmental Engineering Science) on both the new BSc website, as well as on our Course planning and Advice pages.

You must re-enrol in your course for 2017 by Fri 9 Dec (midnight). If you don’t re-enrol before this deadline you will incur a $103 late re-enrolment fee.

Not sure how to go about re-enrolling, or got questions? More information about re-enrolment can be found here.

Opportunities

Become an In2Science Mentor

Are you passionate about science and maths?

Undergraduate students studying science, technology, engineering and/or maths are invited to apply as an In2science Mentor for semester 1 2017. Mentors will be confirmed this year.

In2science is a science peer mentoring program that works to engage high school students from low socio-economic areas with science and maths. University students volunteer their time to work as a mentor in a year 8 or 9 science or maths classrooms or as an online eMentor for 10 week placements. Over the 10 weeks you will get to know the students and encourage them to relate the science/maths they are studying in class to their lives and interests outside of school. You will show that scientists are diverse people not restricted to lab coats and that science is important in many aspects of our lives!

Volunteering with In2science is a great way to give back to the community in the science sphere. With training and support from the University you will develop your communication skills, enhance your resume, get a taste for the classroom and inform our society about the importance and wonders of science.

To apply, go to the website. Any questions? Email Maddy Yewers.

Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year of study in the Faculty of Science with a H3 average.

SciComm Tip #12 Learn to make great Powerpoint slides

Chances are, at some point you will give a talk using Powerpoint (or equivalent) slides. And no matter how interesting the content is and how well you speak, bad slides can completely wreck your talk. So invest time in making fantastic slides that enhance, rather than distract from your message. A simple rule to follow: less is always more. Fewer slides, minimal text and animations only if essential. Here are a few good tips, and there’s plenty more useful advice online.
