Welcome to our World
As the sun shines so does Hauraki Coromandel, with traffic beginning to flow around the Peninsula once again. Visitors are being
welcomed to return and enjoy everything on offer. Businesses are eager to deliver an experience that lives up to the good for your soul lifestyle that epitomises the destination.
Multiple agencies have been working hard to keep people safe and get the Coromandel back up and functioning once again. Thames-Coromandel District Council Mayor, Len Salt, would like to acknowledge all those involved and remind people that we are open for business. “We’re open and ready to welcome people back. Please check the forecast and conditions for roading updates. Remember to be careful, be patient and drive safely.”
With the State Highway 25A road closed, visitors will be encouraged to do the full loop taking in all the towns and must do icons along the way. For the most part the journey will only add another hour compared with the the Kopu-Hikuai summit road traverse (SH25A).
Regional Tourism Organisation, Destination Hauraki Coromandel (DHC), believe the Coromandel Roadtrip will come into its own helping to exceed visitor expectations. DHC General Manager, Hadley Dryden, is keen to point out that the region is a place best experienced when people
slow down and stay longer. “Visitors will be rewarded with amazing scenery that is loaded with bucket list icons and attractions from start to finish. The popular food and art scene is inspired by nature that locals love to share and protect.”
Choosing where to stay, play and eat is all part of the experience, with travellers spoilt for choice. Lukes Kitchen, based in the coastal village of Kūaotunu, is an example of one such place that attracts people the world over. Owner Luke Reilly is happy to extend a welcome to our world “The beauty of the Coromandel is that you get to enjoy the journey and the destination. Those that make the effort will be in for a
treat.”
People live in the Coromandel for the very reasons that attract visitors here. The beautiful coastline surrounds dramatic ranges that will be on show all the way along State Highway 25 which forms the Coromandel loop. Visitors are reminded to take their time and stop off to enjoy the communities along the way.
