With more than half of adults and more than one in five children in NSW being overweight or obese, we are living in an environment where unhealthy eating habits and a lack of physical activity have become ‘normal’. Preventable tooth decay causes rise in GA lists - What can you do? Tooth decay – it’s the most common chronic disease in children and the most common reason why children are hospitalised for a general anaesthetic. In 2014-15 alone, dental conditions resulted in more than 2,100 potentially preventable hospital admissions for children aged four years and under in NSW. But it only takes a few minutes a day to care for children’s teeth, reducing the risk of painful cavities and dental problems in later life. Click to read more Have your say on the Health Star Rating (HSR) system The Commonwealth Department of Health has invited the public and stakeholders to give their feedback as part of the five year review of the HSR system. The HSR is a voluntary front-of-pack labelling scheme intended to assist consumers in making healthier dietary choices by rating the overall nutritional profile of packaged food and assigning it a rating from half a star to five stars. Advance Care Planning in Sydney Local Health District and training available Recently, every GP within Sydney Local Health District was sent a resource pack in the mail. Included was a copy of the new SLHD Advance Care Planning Booklet and factsheet. Templates of the SLHD Advance Care Directive, Advance Care Plan and factsheets with translations can be downloaded from the HealthPathways Sydney website All Advance Care Planning documents can now be submitted to Sydney Local Health District Medical Records to be added to your patient’s medical record.
